LAKEPORT, Calif. – A mother duck and her 10 ducklings were saved from a precarious situation on Monday thanks to the work of police officers, firefighters and city of Lakeport staff.
On Monday evening, the Lakeport Police Department, Lakeport Fire Protection District and Lakeport Public Works responded to 11th Street to rescue 10 ducklings from a city storm drain.
Police said the ducklings had fallen into the storm drain through a grate, and their mother was unable to get them out.
After the ducklings were rescued, the mother was captured and they were all transported, via patrol car, to the Fifth Street boat launch and released, police said.
This is the latest wildlife effort rescue effort by city officials.
On the night of April 3, Lakeport Police Sgt. Joe Eastham rescued an injured osprey from a city street, as Lake County News has reported.
The osprey remains in the care of a wildlife rehabilitation organization, officials said.
