LAKEPORT, Calif. – A proposal to local a Bureau of Land Management field office in Lake County and a draft paper subdivision management plan will go to the Board of Supervisors for consideration this week.
The board will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport. TV8 will broadcast the meeting live, with the video available online at http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Boards/Board_of_Supervisors/calendar.htm .
In an untimed item, the board will consider offering a letter of support for a proposal to locate a Bureau of Land Management field office in Lake County.
According to a report to the board from Deputy Administrative Officer Alan Flora, the BLM currently is requesting proposals for locations for a field office for the Central California District, which is currently in Ukiah. Proposals are due by Dec. 1.
Ruzicka Associates plans to submit a proposal to BLM in order to offer a location in Lake County, and is requesting a support letter from the board, Flora reported.
Flora's report explains that the BLM Ukiah Field Office manages approximately 270,000 acres of BLM-managed surface acres and 214,000 additional subsurface acres (mineral estate) within the counties of Marin, Solano, Sonoma, Mendocino (south of the city of Willits), Lake, Napa, Yolo, Colusa and Glenn counties.
Four of the six recreation or natural areas managed by the field office are located in Lake County and include the Knoxville Recreation Area, Cache Creek Natural Area, Cow Mountain Recreation Area and Indian Valley Recreation Area, he said.
He said the BLM would lease property for offices and equipment storage and staging at the chosen field office location, with an estimated 35 to 40 jobs to be associated with the Field Office.
Flora said county staff strongly supports the idea of a BLM field office being located in Lake County.
At 9:30 a.m., the board will hear a presentation from Community Development Director Rick Coel on a draft paper subdivision management plan.
Coel's report said the board directed him two years ago to work on the plan covering the estimated 10,000 paper subdivision lots created in the county in the early 20th century.
He's seeking direction from the board to complete the final draft of this plan and schedule a hearing for adoption in December.
In other business, at 10:15 a.m., the board will take up a discussion carried over from Oct. 28 regarding a recommendation to close the Historic Courthouse Museum on Sundays and on Labor Day.
In an untimed item, the board will consider once again continuing the emergency proclamation first passed in March regarding drought conditions.
