First Lutheran Church to mark Holy Week

LUCERNE, Calif. – Do you want to hear the old, old story? Do you want to be embraced with a love that is so unconditional that a man would die a horrible death on our behalf so we could have it? Do you want to know what Jesus went through the week of His Passion?

Then join First Lutheran Church in Lucerne. The church is extending an invitation to all people to attend its services during Holy Week with the focus being “Living in Grace.”

This coming Sunday, which is called Palm Sunday, they will focus on “Living in Grace by Being Humble” and talk specifically about how Jesus’ humility is an example to us all as we move to further embrace and beautify our community.

Worship on Sunday is at 11 a.m. followed by a hot lunch.

On Thursday, March 29, which is called Maundy Thursday, the church will celebrate Jesus’ Last Supper through the Sacrament of the Eucharist. The focus will be on “Living in Grace Through Holy Communion” and they will talk about the command that Jesus gave us, “Mandatum novum do vobis” or “a new Command I give to you”, i.e., John 13:34 “love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”

Prior to worship at 6 p.m. they will share together a soup supper at 5 p.m.

On Good Friday, March 30, there will be a service at noon with the focus being, “Living in Grace Through Sacrifice.”

The day Jesus died is the one day where the church altar is stripped bare to remind us of the solemn nature of the events of Good Friday. The focus of this service is entirely on the reality of what Jesus did to take away our sin.

Easter Sunday, April 1, is a day for Hallelujahs. It is the day that Jesus rose from the dead and the tomb was empty. With that said, the focus this year is” Living in Grace because the Tomb is Empty.”

The old favorite hymns like “Jesus Christ is Risen today” and “I Know that my Redeemer Lives” will be sung to His glory and our thankfulness for eternity granted by His resurrection for all who believe.

Worship is at 11 a.m., with lunch immediately following worship and an Easter egg hunt for the children at 1 p.m.

Join us for this incredible celebration.
