UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Upper Lake Community United Methodist Church will have its annual prayer vigil from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Anyone wishing to may come and pray during these hours.

The Ash Wednesday service will commence at 4:30 p.m.

This service, in the light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ, helps us to confront our own mortality and confess our sins before God within the community of faith.

The service will end with the imposition of ashes at which time Pastor Bob Green will make the sign of the cross, from the ashes of last year’s palm branches, on the forehead of each person.

The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Christian worship and the Imposition of Ashes can be a powerful nonverbal way of participating in that call.

After the Imposition of Ashes the church will sing the hymn “It’s Me, It’s Me, O Lord” standing in the need of prayer.

All are welcome to join in the Ash Wednesday service as well as the church’s regularly scheduled Sunday service at 11 a.m.

Upper Lake Community United Methodist Church’s motto is “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors,” passion for Christ, compassion for All.

The church is located at 604 Clover Valley Road.
