LAKE COUNTY – The Coast Guard Auxiliary is teaching the last boating safety course of the year on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The class runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lake County Sheriff's Office training room at the Hill Road Jail campus, 4913 Helbush St. in Lakeport.

An overview of California Boating Law, required and recommended equipment on your boat, trailering, aids to navigation, light configurations and much more are covered topics.

Successful completion of this class often earns boat owners a discount on their boat insurance.

Last, boat operators should get their classes in before 2010 when California initiates licensing of boat operators. Impacted classes are expected when this becomes law. Successful completion of a boating course before 2010 will meet that obligation.

Preregistration is not required but recommended. Materials are optional, but if desired, the fee is $25 to purchase them.
