Lake County Historical Society awards scholarships to high school graduates

LAKE COUNTY – The Lake County Historical Society has awarded two $500 scholarships to local high school graduates.


Ashley M. Perry, Clear Lake High School, has received a $500 scholarship and will attend Brigham Young University this fall.


She plans to obtain a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and possibly go on to attend law school.


William J. Phelps, Middletown High School, has received a $500 scholarship and will attend California State University at Long Beach this fall.


He plans to obtain a bachelor of science degree in microbiology and possibly continue on to medical school.


Application for the historical society's scholarships is open to all graduating Lake County high school students who will be enrolling in a college or vocational school.


The student must carry at least 12 units, have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, and be active in school and community activities.


A 250- to 750-word essay on Lake County history is required. The essay may be published in the Historical Society’s Pomo Bulletin.
