Mendocino College to host Earth Week events with a focus on climate change

UKIAH, Calif. – Mendocino College will host Earth Week April 8 to 12 to initiate community awareness about climate change and other environmental issues through a multidisciplinary approach.

The week will be devoted to talks, demonstrations, displays, and activities geared around the topic.

All Earth Week events will be held in the Student Center at the Mendocino College Ukiah campus and are free and open to the public.

There also will be a wide variety of Mendocino College faculty that will be focusing on climate change in their classes during throughout the week.

The Earth Week schedule is as follows:

Monday, April 8

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

– Plant displays by the agriculture department.

– Seed balls for pollinator gardens, Math Engineering Science Achievement Program, or MESA.

– Green cars from on display from Thurston Auto Center

12:30 to 1:20 p.m.

– The Phoenix Project: Artists, Educators, and the Community Confront Climate Change (Presented by Mendocino College faculty: Jody Gehrman, Doug Browe, Reid Edelman, Lisa Rosenstreich, Jessica R. Thompson, Stephan Decker, Rodney Grisanti).

– Solar oven building and cooking demonstration by MESA.

Tuesday, April 9

12:30 to 1:20 p.m.

– The Climate Change: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions (presented by Mendocino College Faulty Chris Ineich).

– Earth Friendly Food by Mendocino College Culinary Arts Department.

– Music by Mendocino College Recordings Arts & Technology students.

– Seed balls for pollinator gardens by MESA.

– Green cars on display from Thurston Auto Center.

12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

– Gallery Display: Fostering our Future – Collaborating to Cultivate an Environmentally Aware Community​.

Wednesday, April 10

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

– Plant displays by the agriculture department.

– Seed balls for pollinator gardens.

– The Usal Redwood Forest: Acting Locally to Confront Global Environmental Challenges
