Local students win at Skills USA event

LAKE COUNTY – Students from Lower Lake, Upper Lake and Middletown High Schools competed, along with students from seven other schools in Sonoma and Mendocino counties, at the Region 1 Skills USA competition, a vocational skills contest that was held in Santa Rosa on Jan. 26.


Students who won gold medals are eligible to compete in the statewide contest in Fresno, which takes place April 10 through 13.


The following are local students' finishes in the competition.


Automotive Service Technology

Gold: Marla Ivans, Lower Lake; Zander Heidebrecht, Lower Lake.


CA 20 Second Elevator

Gold: Wyatt O’Brien, Middletown; Dan Renninger III, Middletown.


CO2 Car Design and Racing

Gold: Wyatt O’Brien, Middletown.

Gold: Dan Renninger III, Middletown.


Computer Maintenance Tech

Gold: Jeremy Hoskins, Middletown; Dominic Turner, Middletown.


Customer Service

Gold: James Augustus, Middletown.

Silver: Melissa Moreira, Upper Lake.


Extemporaneous Speaking

Gold: Aaron Turner, Middletown.


Job Interview

Gold: Audrey Stricklind, Middletown; Dominic Turner, Middletown; James Augustus, Middletown; Kellie Hickson, Middletown.

Silver: Justin Carrillo, Middletown; Ben Lopez, Middletown.


MIG Welding

Gold: Russell Rosenthal, Middletown.

Silver: John Weidner, Lower Lake.
