Carlé High School would like to thank Rian Sommerfield of Nest Egg Investments in Kelseyville who helped us find a vehicle to invest the $300,000 donation bequeathed to us by Russell Rustici. Sommerfield graciously provided his services to Carlé free of charge.

The donation was in the last handwritten line of Rustici's will. It stated that Carlé will receive this donation for the express purpose of student scholarships.

“We are extremely grateful to Russell Rustici, Rian Sommerfield and the Konocti School Board for coming together and doing an excellent job of creating a sustainable scholarship for Carlé High School students,” said Carlé Principal Ed Zander.

Forty years of Carlé students will forever be grateful for this extremely generous gift!

Deadline for our in school mug contest was Friday; we have already printed Christina Ortega, Ryan Cumpston, Bianca Frias, Josh Hays,Gerald Stahlman, Dylan Nevarez, Winter Gray, Kara Boyce, Christina Ortega, Brianna Giambra, Ellie Hackler, Dikota David and many other winning entries.

The N.H.S.R.A's (National High School Rodeo Association) Rodeo is going on. One Carlé student, Chris McCarley, has been involved in rodeo for nine years and this year he is entered in team roping, which is when two partners tie an animal, one catches the head and the other catches the feet and they tie it down. He does tie down roping, in which you jump off the horse, rope and tie up a calf. Finally, he does steer wrestling, where the steer runs out and you grab it by the horns, and tie it down. Good luck, Chris!

Alan Siegel, one of Carlé's teachers, is serving on a panel during a major technology conference in the Washington, DC area. He will be serving on the panel with US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. The panel will only have four people on it so Alan will be sure to be a voice for Lake County and rural school issues.

Carlé's ping pong tournament has ended and here are the winners: Gary Oakes in first place, Dylan Nevarez in second and Allen Weemes in third. Congratulations to our ping pong winners! Each winner has been awarded a specially designed plaque from our own Student Based Enterprise designed by Kodi Burr.

Carlé welcomes Ashley Wilsley to our school! We hope you feel welcome here.

Our student of the week was Dylan Nevarez. He always helps around the school and is always there when you need help. He is an excellent athlete, artist and always has his eyes on the prize. Keep up the great work, Dylan!

Two Carlé students were invited to attend the student of the month Rotary Award luncheon. Kodi Burr and Ashley Wiebusch were chosen. They were invited to attend because they always give their best efforts. Kodi is Carlé's head graphic designer and has been running the Lower Lake Community Action dinner one Wednesday each month. Ashley has become our student body president, and has done an excellent job in supporting school and community events. Congratulations to the two of you for your hard work!

Andrea McMullen is a student at Carlé High School.
