WOODLAND – Clear Lake Road Rider Chuck Gillingham was the winner of a 2008 Honda motorcycle at the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Ride for Kids in Woodland on Oct. 5.


Gillingham and 19 members of the Clear Lake Road Riders attended the annual fundraising event in Woodland.


Each $300 donation receives an opportunity to win a motorcycle.


Gillingham's win was icing on the cake for the Clear Lake Road Riders as they were also honored with second place donations in excess of $25,000.

CLEARLAKE OAKS – A community-wide memorial service celebrating of the life of Pastor Ruth Canady will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11.


The service will take place beginning at 4 p.m. in the Thornton-Canady Youth and Community Center.


Pastor Ruth and her late husband, the Rev. Bill Thornton, inspired many to realize their own personal potential and to work to revitalize Clearlake Oaks.


The new Thornton-Canady Youth and Community Center is on the Plaza, above Nylander Park, in the Oaks.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.


Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.


LAKE COUNTY


Highway 20

– A highway widening project from Polk Jones Cattlepass to Nice-Lucerne Cutoff Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.


– A roadway realignment project from 1.4 miles east of the North Fork Cache Creek Bridge to 1.6 miles west of Walker Ridge Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 20-minute delays. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.


Highway 29


– A shoulder widening project from Hofacker Lane to 0.5 miles north of Hofacker Lane will continue on Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – North Bay Construction of Petaluma.


Highway 53


– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at the intersection of Route 53 and 40th Avenue/Lakeshore Boulevard beginning Monday, Oct. 14. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. The connector ramp from eastbound 40th Avenue/Lakeshore Boulevard to southbound Route 53 will be closed. A detour will be available.


MENDOCINO COUNTY


Highway 1


– A paving project from Walnut Street to Pudding Creek Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.


– The City of Fort Bragg has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to install a new sewer line between Elm Street and Airport Road. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


Highway 20


– A highway widening project from Old Willits Road to Gravel Pitt Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 20-minute delays. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.


Highway 101


– A pavement repair project from 0.1 miles north to 1.5 miles north of Comminsky Station Road will continue. Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.


– A paving project from Center Street to the junction of Route 101/253 will continue. Work hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Martin Brothers Construction of Sacramento.


– Roadway repair due to pavement deterioration from 3.6 miles south of Ridgewood Ranch Road to 1.9 miles south of Ridgewood Ranch Road will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.


– Bridge deck rehabilitation on the South Willits Overhead will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – American Civil Constructors of Benicia.


– Bridge deck rehabilitation on the Long Valley Creek Bridge will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – American Civil Constructors of Benicia.


– A paving project from Long Valley Creek Bridge to Harwood Road will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 12 midnight, weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Mercer Fraser of Eureka.


Highway 162


– A bridge widening project at Outlet Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal is in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.


Highway 253


– A bridge widening project at Anderson Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal is in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.


– A bridge widening project at Soda Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal is in effect 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.

LAKEPORT – Friends of Lake County Library will hold its annual book faire and open house Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Lakeport Library, 1425 N. High St., Lakeport.

Book sales will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

There will be book bags for $15 that buyers can stuff as many books as they will hold. Refreshments will be served.

Friends of the Lake County Library is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that supports the libraries of Lake County. Volunteers are dedicated to expanding what the library system offers to children and adults.

Your support by purchasing books, magazines and periodicals will help the group continue its mission of supporting the freedom to read and the enjoyment of learning.

LAKE COUNTY – The PEG Channel, TV Channel 8, is broadcasting a Middletown District 1 supervisorial candidates debate this week.


The debate can be seen from 10:05 p.m. to 11:04 p.m. each day this week.


Supervisorial candidates Susanne La Faver of Hidden Valley Lake and James Comstock of Middletown have debated twice, once on Sept. 17 in Lower Lake and again on Oct. 1 in Middletown. It's the second debate in Middletown being broadcast this week.


Both debates were videotaped by PEG Manager Allen Markowski for rebroadcast on the station.


Comstock and La Faver will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot. Both are vying to succeed Supervisor Ed Robey, who is retiring from the Board of Supervisors.
