CLEARLAKE – The Spirit of Aloha Hawaiian-themed dinner and show will be held on Saturday. Aug. 1.

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Austin Park, 14077 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.

True to the Spirit of Aloha, dozens of members of the Clearlake community have been donating generous amounts of time, energy and resources to support the upcoming benefit for Lake County Youth Center.

Volunteers have been busy for months with the goal of transforming Austin Park into a tropical paradise for one magical evening.

The benefit promises to provide dinner and entertainment for the first 100 people who are wise enough to purchase advance tickets.

See Austin Park transformed into a tropical paradise complete with 25-foot volcano. There will be a great Polynesian-inspired dinner, with music and dancers.

The Spirit of Aloha Benefit Dinner and Show concept was originally developed by youth advocate and dance instructor, Alice Reece.

Reece began months ago planning, promoting and recruiting for the event. She has enlisted the support of the Clearlake Police Department to help to set up and secure the site.

Under Reece's gentle guidance, dancers of all ages have been rehearsing several Polynesian dance numbers. Clearlake's Main Street Bar and Grill has generously offered to provide 100 Hawaiian dinners.

As part of the transformation, local volunteers are growing tropical plants and building a volcano. Costumes are being created locally and leis are being flown in. Reece recruited some of the most talented musicians from the Clearlake area to provide entertainment throughout the evening.

Tickets are available at Main Street Bar and Grill and at Java Express. Both businesses are located on Lakeshore Blvd. in Clearlake.

VIP seating will cost $25 per person. General admission tickets are $10 each for adults and $5 each for children; children age 5 and under attend for free. All advance purchase tickets include dinners.

For more information contact Alice Reece at 707-485-2994.

GARBERVILLE – Caltrans officials report that an event planned for next week near Garberville may cause traffic delays in Humboldt, Mendocino and Lake counties.

French's Camp, adjacent to Route 101, approximately 10 miles south of Garberville, near the Humboldt-Mendocino County line, will be the site for the Reggae Rising concert.

The event will begin Friday, July 31, and will end Sunday, Aug. 2. Traffic delays may occur as far south as Willits on Route 101 and along Route 20 from Interstate 5 to Route 101.

Those traveling through the area may experience short delays. Up to one-hour delays are expected at the conclusion of the event and into Monday, Aug. 3.

The one-hour delays will most likely occur at the event location, on two-lane highway segments, and southbound near the city of Willits.

Also, only local traffic will be allowed on Route 271 Thursday through Monday.

Dimmick Ranch of Piercy has been granted a Caltrans encroachment permit to install temporary traffic control features on Route 101 beginning Wednesday, July 29, to alert the traveling public to congestion caused by the special event.

The California Highway Patrol and event volunteers will be providing traffic control near the event area.
