UPPER LAKE – A two-day Lake County Vehicle Amnesty is scheduled on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Last Mile Auto, 1205 W. Highway 20 in Upper Lake.

Lake County residents are encouraged to dispose of old cars and noncommercial trucks of one-ton or less capacity.

“This program is for all Lake County property owners including those in the cities of Clearlake and Lakeport,” said Voris Brumfield, Lake County Code Enforcement Manager.”

The local California Highway Patrol, Department of Motor Vehicles, Code Enforcement and salvage yards are helping people clear their yards, garages, fields and barns of vehicles and parts they are not using. Property owners and tenants are encouraged to dispose of abandoned, inoperable vehicles and parts, at no cost to them now. Extra tires and trash must be removed from the vehicles before being taken to the salvage yard, Brumfield said.

“We want people to know that if the vehicle is not currently registered, a no-fee one-trip permit per vehicle is available from DMV in Lakeport,” Brumfield concluded.

A title is not required to dispose of vehicles; CHP officers and volunteers, as well as Code Enforcement staff will be on site to assist with the necessary forms to release ownership.

Extra motors without oil and other vehicle parts and batteries may be brought to any of the sites for free disposal. Motor homes, school buses, and travel trailers, extra tires or garbage will not be accepted during Vehicle Amnesty Days.

Vehicle Amnesty Days for Middletown Towing, in the city of Clearlake, is scheduled Sept. 11 and 12 and Kelseyville Auto Salvage is scheduled Oct. 2 and 3.
