LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Hospice Services of Lake County is beginning another series of meetings to help adults who have experienced the death of a loved one, either recently or in the past.

Groups start on Jan. 23 and run eight weeks on Thursdays through March 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Recognizing there is not just a single way through grief, Hospice Services’ bereavement program will present “The Journey Through Grief,” a free, educational series. Groups will be held at Hospice Services of Lake County located at 1862 Parallel Drive in Lakeport.

Group sessions are structured with combined instruction and discussion in a safe environment, facilitated by trained bereavement counselors.

“In our world today, we are being challenged by losses of all kinds. In addition to these, many of us are trying to also navigate grief due to the death of a loved one,” said Bereavement Services Manager Kathleen Bradley. “In our groups, we companion and support each other as we attempt to find our footing and a new normal.”

Bradley said that during the weekly group sessions, education will be provided about grief, mourning and what is “normal,” as well as tools to use in healing.

Weekly topics are presented in a meaningful sequence, so attendance at all sessions is essential.

Examples of topics covered in groups include setting intentions to heal, dispelling misconceptions about grief, exploring personal feelings of loss, seeking resolution and self-care.

Hospice Services of Lake County provides high quality medical, emotional and spiritual care to help patients, and their families navigate their end-of-life journeys.

CALIFORNIA — President Joseph R. Biden has declared Thursday, January 9, as a National Day of Mourning in remembrance of former President Jimmy Carter.

Out of respect for the 39th President of the United States and to honor his vast contributions to our country during his lifetime, and consistent with the Presidential Proclamation, the United States Postal Service will suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity on Jan. 9.

“We will provide limited package delivery service on that day to ensure the organization does not experience any negative impacts to its package delivery operations,” the U.S. Postal Service reported.

Although there will be no regular mail service, Priority Mail Express is delivered 365 days a year and will be delivered on Jan. 9.

Normal delivery and collection schedules will resume Friday, Jan. 10.

LAKEPORT, Calif. — The Rotary Club of Lakeport will hold a crab feed fundraising event at the Lake County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Feb. 15.

After years of COVID-inspired “drive through” crab feeds, this year’s event will be an old-fashioned in-person crab feed with all the fixins, served in the fairground’s Little Theater building.

Everything kicks off at 5 p.m.

To liven things up this year there will be several rounds of “seahorse” races. Cheer on your favorite ride and make donations to qualify for some cool prizes if your mount wins. “Crabby” the crab will be in attendance, as well, to add to the fun.

The menu includes all you can eat cracked crab, shrimp, pasta, salad and bread. And there will be plenty of melted butter, lemon and seafood sauce.

Several sponsorship levels are being offered:

• Crustacean Champion for $7,500. The sponsor receives two tables for eight, a filmed commercial with Crabby at your business, complimentary racing vouchers, complimentary bottles of wine for the tables and media press releases.
• SEA-Biscuit for $2,500. The sponsor receives one table for eight, media advertisements, banners at the event and complimentary wine.
• SEAcretariat for $1,000. The sponsor receives one table for eight and media advertisements.
• The Winning Claw for $500. The sponsor receives reserved seating for four people and media advertisements.

Individual tickets are available for $75 and can be purchased online by going to www.lakeportrotary.org.

All proceeds from the event go to support the many local and international projects undertaken by the Rotary Club of Lakeport.
