Brian Keith Gray was born on Aug. 12, 1938, in Eureka, Mont., to Keifer and Josephine Fleming Gray. He died August 5, 2013, in Kelseyville, Calif., from COPD.

His father was in the customs and immigration service, so every two years of Brian’s childhood they moved to another station. He grew up in Long Beach, Salt Lake City, New York City, Spokane, and Helena, Mont., among other places. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1956.

He joined the U. S. Air Force, and was sent to the U.S. Army Defense Language Institute for a year to study Russian. He was then posted in Berlin, Germany for the next three years. He married Gisela Denecke, and their first son Phillip was born there.

They returned to Bellevue, Wash., in 1960. He worked for the Seattle Police Department for seven years, during which time his second son Michael was born.

His first job was in Helena when he was 12 years old, mixing DDT in a barrel and loading it onto a crop dusting airplane. He was paid with flying lessons, and a love for aviation was born.

That interest was sparked again in 1967 in Bellevue, when his photography hobby took him to the local airport to shoot some film. He then spent the next two years, when he was not working, getting the licenses and ratings necessary to be hired by an airline.

In 1969 he was hired by Wien Consolidated Airlines, later renamed Wien Air Alaska, and relocated to Fairbanks, Alaska. At that time Wien was the oldest airline in the United States. Until they went into bankruptcy and out of business in 1984 he loved flying all over Alaska, as well as into the lower 48. He flew Pilates Porters, Twin Otters, Skyvans, 737s and DC 8s.

In 1986 he was hired by United Airlines, relocated to the Bay Area, and flew 727s and 747s until his retirement in 1999.

Following his divorce from Gisela he married Lorrie Brieno in 1982.

He is survived by wife, Lorrie; his son, Phillip and daughter-in-law Marvel of Windsor; son, Michael and his daughter Madeline of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; niece, Susan Lockwood, her two children Leslie and Joe, and nephew Peter Lockwood and his daughter Amanda.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marilyn Gray Lockwood.

Brian was a proud member of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) for his entire career. He was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 24 years.

He was an active community volunteer in Lake County since moving here in 1991. He served on the board of directors of the Lake County Chapter of the American Red Cross, was a Cal Fire Volunteer in Prevention, ham radio operator KD6JAL and a member of the Lake County Amateur Radio Society. He used his communication skills during several disasters, as well as bicycle events such as the Konocti Challenge and the Davis to Davis double century.

He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, and was a member of the Clear Lake Modelers. Photography was always a favorite pastime. He designed and built water systems for community gardens for the Lake County Hunger Task Force.

He was a kind, loving, generous, gentle soul and will be missed by all who crossed his path.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 17.

Sylvia (Stout) Mandigo entered into rest on Aug. 2 after an extended illness.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Stout and Guilford Mandigo; and her children, William Cupit and Kenda Cook (Cupit). 

She is survived by her sisters, Thelma Wise of Kearney, NE and Erma Pantano of Sunnyvale, Calif.; her grandson, Robert Cook and his wife Aleta; her stepchildren Greg, Dana and Cathleen Mandigo and her children Christian, Leah and Blake. 

She has two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Allison, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. 

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Lakeport Christian Center in Lakeport, Calif.

Burial will follow at Kelseyville Cemetery.

Gilbert Pacheco Medeiros passed away July 24, 2013 at the age of 85.

He was born Aug. 19, 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Manuel and Ermelinda Medeiros. He retired as a carpenter.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Marie Medeiros; brothers, Edward and Ricardo Medeiros; sisters, Genoneva Dias, Rita Silva and Laura Borges; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request no services will be held. His ashes will be buried at Bull Creek Pioneer Cemetery located in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park in Bull Creek, Calif.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Services for Randolph Ridgel, who passed away on Friday, July 26, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11.

The services will begin at 1 p.m. at the Little Theatre at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He then looked upon this earth and saw her tired face. He put his arms around her and lifted her to rest. His garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best!

Doris died peacefully at her home Monday, July 29, 2013, from congestive heart failure at the age of 86.

She was born in Washington, Ind., on Sept. 9, 1926, to Cora and Jay Gauslin. At the age of 3 she moved to Santa Rita, New Mexico, and when she was 9 years old the family moved to Upper Lake, Calif.

During high school her summer jobs consisted of picking beans and apples and packing pears. After high school she worked in the Upper Lake Post Office until going to San Francisco Dental School in 1946.

After graduation she returned to Upper Lake, but with no dentist in Upper Lake she went back to work at the post office, retiring in 1985 after 31 and a half years of service.

In 1949 she married Tut Harville, who she met in the post office. She was very active in the Upper Lake Methodist Church, making dinners, singing and directing the choir, being a Sunday School teacher and arranging flowers for the alter.

Doris was a 66-year member of the Queen of the Lake Rebekah Lodge and also an active member of the Upper Lake Women's Protective Club and attended most of the town council meetings.

Doris and her late husband Tut were big supporters of the Upper Lake Schools, which in 2003 the high school gym was renamed “The Harville Gym.”

Doris was a leader in 4-H for 21 years, not only to her own children, but also her grandson. She was an avid gardener and had a beautiful garden filled with flowers year round.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Kathy Scott of Woodland and Sue Harville of Upper Lake. She is also survived by her grandsons, Scott (Joan) Harville of Suffolk, Va., and Charles (Becky) Scott of Petaluma; granddaughters, Kim and Kris Scott of Woodland, and Kelly (Jon) Sagara of Roseville; great-grandchildren, Leanna and Tut Harville of Suffolk, Va., Troy and Trent Sagara of Roseville and Brianna Scott of Petaluma; loving sister, Rita Crabtree of Sparks, Nev; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles “Tut”; daughter, Lynn; son-in-law, Jack Humphrey; brother, Jimmy; and her parents.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary in Lakeport. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Upper Lake Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Upper Lake Cemetery.

Joel Robert Bonds, 65, passed away suddenly from a coronary arterial thrombosis in Clearlake, Calif., on July 21, 2013.

Joel was born in Berkeley, Calif., on August 17, 1947, to Scott W. and Catherine O. Bonds.

He lived and attended schools in Berkeley before his family moved to Palm Springs in 1964, where he graduated from high school in 1965.

His interests early in life included swimming, sailing, water skiing, snow skiing, Judo, camping and hiking. He was an assistant scoutmaster working with the Boy Scout troop at St. Teresa School and scoutmaster of a troop at Katherine Finchy School.

Joel was an active member of the Palm Springs Jaycees helping on many civic projects including the annual Fourth of July fireworks shows, Big Toys installations at three of the Palm Springs city parks, and renovations for the Palm Springs Historical Society.

Joel attended College of the Desert then Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in Baltimore, Md. After serving on merchant ships for two years, with trips to Vietnam and South America, Joel returned to College of the Desert completing an AA degree.

He attended farriers’ school at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before starting a career as a building contractor working with his father, Scott, and brother-in law, Jim Stevens. As Bonds Properties, they built homes in Palm Springs between 1970 and 1980.

He married Marilyn Diann Riordan on June 18, 1972, moving to Olympia, Wash., in 1980 with sons Christopher and Timothy. Son Noah was born in Olympia.

Joel continued working as a contractor doing remodeling work, he owned and operated Tacoma Bicycle for five years, and he worked for various building related businesses in the Olympia area.

Following their divorce in 1992 he moved to Roseburg, Ore., and finally returned to his beloved Clear Lake. Joel was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Konocti Bay Sailing Club, and volunteered many hours at the Calvary Church in Clearlake.

Hobbies included traveling by cruise ships and trains, boating, sailing, swimming, visiting the neighbors, being an animal lover, feeding the ducks, helping others and getting a good deal.

A natural artist he could provide a donkey for birthday party games in a few minutes. He loved sermons with exemplifying stories.

He couldn’t help giving – always, in whatever situation he found himself. His strove to follow the scout motto, “Be Prepared” and he lived by the “Golden Rule.”

Joel was exquisitely rare, complex and highly intelligent, living by profound principles and ideals and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his three sons, Christopher (Kristi) and grandchildren Katelyn and Camden, Timothy, (Sara), grandchildren Zena and Luke Sol, and Noah (Angela); his sister, Jana Bonds Stevens (James); nephew, Kasey (Erin) Stevens; nieces, Whitney Stevens (Daniel Walter) and Hayley Stevens; and cousins, James Van Ness (Arlene); Richard Van Ness and Judith Van Tassell. He also leaves behind his friend and companion Laure’ Zabek.

He has gone to be with the Lord and those that preceded him, his brother Gerald and loving parents Catherine and Scott.

A celebration of life service will be at Calvary Chapel, Clearlake at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2.
