Marty Bolyan of Lakeport, Calif., died Jan. 29, 2013, in her home, and was laid to rest in a private graveside service Feb. 1 at the Kelseyville cemetery.

She was a bright spirited woman born and raised in Wilber, Neb., where she was an active participant in the Sokol Gymnastics group, traveling to Chicago to compete.

She was very proud of her Czech heritage and participated in the Wilber Czech Days whenever she could, sharing the tradition with her children.

Marty and her husband Larry (deceased December 1997), met in Lincoln, Neb., when she worked at the YMCA and Larry was a student at the university.

They began their life together, moving to the wilderness of Alaska. When she had enough of the cold they moved to San Mateo, Calif., where they raised their three children, Lora, Jean and Ben.

Marty volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and worked as a school librarian in San Mateo. Towards the end of her life she made an unforgettable trip down “Memory Lane” with her daughters revisiting their favorite childhood places.

She loved to travel, and visited much of the world: Russia, Australia, and Japan with Larry; Europe with her brothers, and the Czech Republic and Yugoslavia with her daughter.  Additionally, she made many trips up and down the state, visiting her daughter in Washington and her niece in Los Angeles.

As Marty and Larry looked towards retirement they purchased a small “farm” outside Lakeport where they lived for over 35 years and enjoyed many beautiful afternoons of shared 4:00 coffee. There were many friends and family visitors in her life, most regularly her five grandchildren whom she loved and enjoyed dearly.  

Marty was an active member of the Quail Run Fitness Center. She served on the Lake County Grand Jury, Juvenile Justice Committee, Lake County Arts Council,  Library Advisory Board and the Senior Gleaners.

She is survived by her daughters, Lora Moore of Sacramento and Jean Ellis of Prosser, Wash.; son Ben (Jackie) Bolyan of Lakeport; her grandchildren, Brandon, Stephanie, and Brian Ellis, and Benjamin Bolyan and Thomas Moore.

Additionally she is survived by many nieces and nephews from the east to west coasts, as well as abroad in the Czech Republic, and her sister Dace and brother-in-law Bob Mitchell of San Francisco. The youngest of seven, all siblings predeceased her.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – A memorial service for Lower Lake High School student Jesse Meldrum has been scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10.

Meldrum’s services will begin at 2 p.m. in the new gym at Lower Lake High School, 9430 Lake St.

The public is invited to attend.

Floyd W. Diamond went to be with the Lord on Feb. 5, 2013. He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in eastern Maine.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Cecile; children, Gail (Harry) Ebbeson of Texas, and Bill (Beverly) of Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Diamond of Maine.

He was preceded in death by his brother. Albert; mother, Hazel; father, Charles; and a nephew, Bruce, all from Maine.

Floyd, Cecile and children moved to Lake County in 1964.

Floyd was a well known heavy equipment operator, mechanic, service station owner and proudly a retired Lake County Sheriff's deputy.

He was very active in his community. He served on the water board, was a volunteer fireman for Nice and was on the Lucerne Community Neighborhood Watch patrol, as well as serving in many more ways – too numerous to mention.

Floyd lived his life on his own terms and always encouraged others to do the same. He will be greatly missed.

His wishes were to be cremated and no services.

He wished his family and friends to celebrate his life and have no sadness.

He lived a full and satisfied life and he will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, Floyd Diamond.

Lucy House passed in her sleep on Feb. 5, 2013.

Lucy was born and raised in San Francisco and lived throughout the Bay Area before settling in Hidden Valley Lake.

Lucy was much loved by her devoted surviving family members; Paulette Huber, her daughter, and Sky Strowbridge, her grandson. She is preceded in death by her son Eugene LeFevre.

It’s with a sad heart that we inform our friends and family of the passing of Michael Roy Thomas, 1953-2013. Mike succumbed to a long illness on Feb. 6, 2013.

He was married to Karen Thomas and when their marriage ended, he moved to Clearlake, Calif., to be with his family.

He is predeceased by his father, James Douglas Thomas, and survived by his mother, Mary E. Thomas (mothermary); his brothers, James and Robert of Clearlake; his nephew, James Scott, and wife Christy Thomas; and his great nephews, Ryan Michael, Tre Dominic, Ian James and Ryker Scott Thomas of Medford, Ore.

Mike was a 1971 Graduate of Fall River High School, Fall River Mills, Calif.

He worked as an electrician and industrial electrician with TIC Inc. at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lower Lake, Calif.

He loved the Hat Creek, Burney area when we all lived there and missed hunting and fishing with his friends.

James “Jim” Hubman was born June 6, 1931 and passed on peacefully on Feb. 5, 2013.
 
Jim dedicated his life to service, honor and enriching the lives of all that knew him.

He served in the United States Marine Corp doing two tours in Korea. From there, he spent 21 years with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, saving people’s lives and “washing a few cats out of trees.”

After moving to Lake County, he continued his public service by spending 15 years in law enforcement.
 
Jim was known for his kind smile, sparkling blue eyes, impeccable handlebar moustache, hilarious “one liners” and his unwavering love for all he knew. His spirit was one that loved unconditionally and saw the light in every dark place.
 
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Randy Hubman, and daughter, Janine Carr.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hubman; daughter, Christine and son-in-law, Rodney Barnes; son, John, and daughter-in-law, Linda Bigley; son, Rick Hubman; furry four-legged daughter, Jasmine; grandchildren, Shannon, Brad, Rick, Jessica, Jerni, Jesse and James; and six great-grandchildren.
 
Jim was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word; he was honest, loyal, compassionate and strong. He loved, respected and adored everyone in his life. He thrived on making those around him happy.  
 
At his request, no services will be held but donations are invited to be made to the Lakeport Fire Department and Four Legged Friends c/o Tina Howard/Wasson Memorial Veterinary.
 
Although his time on this earth is over, his smile will forever be seen and his spirit will live on with each person whose life he touched.
