KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Richard Edmund Carsner, 77, died Feb. 1, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He spent the previous 11 months valiantly undergoing treatment for a very aggressive brain tumor.

A celebration of his life is planned for the spring, with details to be announced.

Rich was born in Oakland, California, on Oct. 30, 1943, to Edmund and Marjorie Carsner. He grew up in San Francisco and was a true native Californian, with the families of both Julio Carrillo and General Vallejo as his ancestors.

Rich was a graduate of Sonoma State (BA Physical Education, 1966) and then completed a postgraduate curriculum in physical therapy at Stanford University in 1967.

While at Sonoma State, Rich lettered in tennis, a sport that he continued to support and enjoy throughout his life as an athlete. He was a gentleman on and off the court.

Rich worked as a staff therapist and Rehab Department Director at Santa Rosa Community Hospital for many years. In 1996 he moved to Ukiah and worked as an inpatient physical therapist at Ukiah Valley Medical Center until his retirement in 2008. He was recognized for his competence, humor and compassion throughout his long career.

Rich and his wife, Jenny, relocated from Mendocino County to Lake County in 2012 and spent many hours enjoying Clear Lake on their boat with Buster, their much-loved border collie.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Jenny; children, Angela Carsner (Joe Corrick) of San Francisco, Adam Benjamin Carsner of Monte Rio, Samuel Carsner of San Francisco, Emily (John) Chavez of Seattle and Sarah (Alex) Stewart of Atascadero; brothers, Ronald Carsner of Deming, New Mexico, and Bradley Carsner of Healdsburg; sister, Jennifer Toney of Santa Clarita; his grandchildren, Nathan, Angelina, Thomas, Bruce, Samuel, Jack and Ava; former spouse, Carol Carsner of Monte Rio; along with multiple nieces, nephews and dear friends.
