Memories of Lilo Hansen

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Lilo was a real people person. She loved being surrounded by friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. For her, our world and beyond was always filled with wonder.

Before she passed away, she made clear that it was her time and although we would miss her, she was ready to go on to a better place. I remember a time or two as a kid, when I needed help or made mistakes in various things.

She was always there to listen and take the edge off my problems in one way or the other. I am sure she was one the best moms ever and will be happy forevermore in heaven along with dad and all the animals.

When I first met Lilo we were two lost souls. Lilo's house had just burned down and my parents had just died.

One wonderful day I put my dogs in the car and went to get the mail. There, fate struck. Lilo fell in love with me and my dogs and a 5-year Harold and Maude friendship started. Lilo, may you be at peace and may your spirit soar.

The year was 2002 and Hardesters Hidden Valley parking lot was the place Lilo introduced herself to us. We had just moved to Lake County a few days prior. She and we had the exact same model Mercedes, at the time and she was amazed at that. She came over to us and introduced herself. We all hit it off immediately and remained friends for 18 years.

We were all “cat people” and we always enjoyed sharing cat stories. During the Valley fire, she sheltered us, our two cats and two of our friends, at her home up until we all had to evacuate her house. Her home finally was totally destroyed.

Lilo was a people magnet and always put a smile on everyone’s face. You’re irreplaceable, Lilo.

Lilo was a huge help at our center, first as a driver for Meals on Wheels and then as a greeter and board member.

She moved to McCloud after the Valley fire destroyed her home in Hidden Valley Lake in 2015.

Lilo will be missed.
