Mary Alice (Lehmkuhl) Goldsmith, of Lucerne, Calif., passed away on Aug. 15, 2010, at St. Helena Hospital.

She was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Paola, Kansas, to Frederick Wilhelm and Mary Pauline (Waggoner) Lehmkuhl, the third of 11 children.

Mary was an excellent seamstress, making many of her own and her family’s clothes. She was especially talented at creating square dance outfits and sewed many for herself and for others. She enjoyed other crafts as well.

Mary never met anyone who stayed a stranger for long; she had a gift for getting to know a great deal about people in a very short time.

She is survived by brothers and sisters, and her two sons, Jim (Karen) Goldsmith of Fresno, Calif., and Bob Goldsmith of Lucerne. She also is survived by five grandchildren: Heather (Dave) Christison of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Jason (Ashley) Goldsmith of San José, Calif.; Jennifer Goldsmith of San José; Luke (Kristel) Goldsmith of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and Phillip Goldsmith of Lucerne; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Galilee Lutheran Church, 8860 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville, CA 95451.

Mary will be laid to rest in the columbarium on the church grounds.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are requested in Mary’s name to Galilee Lutheran Church; the American Cancer Society; the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; the American Heart Association; or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Tulocay Cemetery in Napa, Calif.
