California Volunteers, Office of the Governor launches volunteer recruitment campaign to accelerate COVID-19 vaccinations and slow the spread

On Friday, California Volunteers, Office of the Governor announced a statewide volunteer recruitment campaign to support the state’s efforts to bolster vaccination efforts in the communities most impacted by COVID-19.

“In the face of challenges, Californians come together and our fight to end this pandemic is no different. Volunteers can play an especially important role in supporting our vaccination efforts by serving at a local vaccination site,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom. “I encourage all Californians to join the My Turn – Volunteer effort in service to their community and together we can reach the light at the end of the tunnel.”

There are a variety of ways Californians will be able to help the state’s COVID -19 vaccination efforts.

Volunteer at a vaccination site: Step up to serve by signing up at www.MyTurnVolunteer.ca.gov to volunteer at vaccine distribution sites. Medical and nonmedical volunteers are both needed to serve their communities. Medical volunteers, such as registered nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and dentists may assist in vaccination efforts, while nonmedical volunteers may assist with tasks like providing in-language support, sanitizing surfaces, directing traffic, and registration. As an expanded part of the My Turn program, My Turn – Volunteer will connect vaccination sites and clinics to volunteers in their area to help accelerate the administration of vaccines.

Share the facts: Help educate friends and family with vaccine facts. Download multilingual materials to share and post online.

Help a neighbor: Offer to help schedule neighbors who are eligible to make a vaccine appointment at www.MyTurn.ca.gov or drive them to the vaccination site.

“The quickest way to ensure the safety of Californians is by increasing our state’s vaccination abilities, and My Turn – Volunteer will provide the volunteer resources needed to quickly vaccinate all Californians in our fight against COVID-19,” said Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday.

In addition to My Turn – Volunteer’s comprehensive approach to ensure California can quickly and efficiently administer vaccines when given additional supplies, California Volunteers will partner with AmeriCorps to redirect and engage up to 907 AmeriCorps State and National Civilian Community Corps members to support COVID-19 vaccination and response efforts. In addition, California Volunteers announced the Request for Application for grants totaling $850,000 to fund regional vaccination volunteer hubs that will manage the vetting and training for volunteers from April 1 to Sept. 30. California Volunteers also announced the AmeriCorps COVID-19 Emergency Response Request for Applications, making available up to $1,861,000 in state and federal funds to engage AmeriCorps members in supporting COVID-19 response efforts.
