NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Mendocino National Forest offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Offices will resume virtual services at 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27.

The southern portion of the forest is open and ready for visitors. The northern half remains closed under the August Complex fire closure.

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is traditionally a popular time to visit the Mendocino National Forest. National forests provide a great way to enjoy the outdoors, but it is important that everyone recreate safely.

Please remember to follow CDC guidance to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

– Only gather with people from your household and maintain a minimum of at least six feet of physical distance from other visitors.
– Communicate with others as you pass on trails or step aside and allow others to pass.
Pack out your trash and leave with everything you bring in and use.
– If you or anyone in your household is feeling sick, remain at home and plan your trip for another time.
– To prepare for a trip to the Mendocino, know before you go. Remember that food, gas, and lodging are not available on the forest road network or within forest boundaries. Carry emergency equipment and appropriate maps in your vehicle. Cell phone coverage is not reliable in many areas of the forest. Check the weather forecast before heading out and be aware that conditions can change suddenly in the high country.
