LUCERNE, Calif. – Woman of the Year 2020 in Lake County Yvonne Cox, also known as "The Snake Lady," is working with local organizations Sunrise Special Services Foundation, NCO EPIC and Listos California, to host a support services and free bag lunch event on Friday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6278 E. Highway 20 in Lucerne.

Cox is the owner of The Snake Lady’s Motorcycle Thrift Store and founder of the "Dignity Diner” project.

Cox is known in the community for upholding a 21-year tradition of donating food in honor of her mother — a waitress of 25 years who also made an effort to provide meals.

Local organizations Sunrise Special Services Foundation, NCO EPIC and Listos California have partnered with Cox in an effort to address the emergency preparedness needs of unhoused community members for Hunger and Homeless Awareness week

Listos California is an organization focused on emergency preparedness for vulnerable populations in California.

A Disaster Guide for People Experiencing Homelessness and a Disaster Ready Card will be distributed as part of a statewide effort.

“It is our goal to prepare anyone and everyone in our community with the proper resources for emergency preparedness,” said Tammy Alakszay, Lake County coordinator at NCO EPIC, an emergency preparedness-focused group that serves the populations in Lake and Mendocino counties.

Sunrise Special Services Foundation will be providing information and resources at the event including housing stability, health and wellness, and other services while also providing emergency preparedness materials for those attending the event.
