LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Firefighters have stopped the forward progress on a fire burning near Lower Lake since mid-afternoon Monday.
The Murphy fire began at around 2:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Highway 29 near Agua Dulce Drive, three miles south of Lower Lake, Cal Fire reported.
Cal Fire said early Monday evening that the fire’s size was holding at 40 acres, with 50-percent containment and forward progress stopped.
The size estimate and containment was updated just after 7:30 p.m. by Cal Fire Division Chief Greg Bertelli, who said the acreage was 33.5 acres based on updated mapping, with containment at 75 percent.
During the initial attack on the incident, a portion of Highway 29 in the fire area was closed to traffic, as Lake County News has reported.
The California Highway Patrol reported shortly before 7 p.m. that the highway was reopened to one-way traffic at Hofacker Lane.
