A conference for high school students around the region is being planned for October.

The California Association of Student Councils, or CASC, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1947 by the California Board of Education.

CASC's mission is to produce confident, sympathetic student leaders that are civically engaged with their community at the local and state levels.

CASC Region 3 Cabinet will hold a virtual conference on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The conference is open to all high school students in Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties.

Students at the conference will have the opportunity to create and present proposals to a panel of local superintendents, school board members, local legislators, and other elected officials.

These officials, in turn, will get to hear student voices and leave with new ideas on how to improve education in their jurisdiction.

As the primary stakeholders in their education, students have a valuable perspective to offer officials who hold the power to make change.

The cost of attending is $20 until Oct. 9. Scholarships are available upon request.

Students can sign up here or here.
