Sierra Service Project expands summer program to Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Sierra Service Project, or SSP, is pleased to announce that it has expanded its summer program for individual youth, families, church youth groups, scout groups and school clubs in Lake County to join them for a fun week of online programs, Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10.

Grades six and up are invited.

In partnership with Hope Rising, Project Restoration, and North Coast Opportunities, participants will spend a week with other teenagers from around the western United States learning about Lake County’s history, culture and community pride, participating in fun activities.

In future summers, SSP will coordinate teams of teenage volunteers to repair homes across the county.

SSP is an ecumenical Christian nonprofit organization, providing life-changing service projects in underserved communities. All youth are welcome and affirmed.

The organization SSP invites high school, middle school, and intergenerational volunteers to experience the profound power of serving people with a culture and background different from their own.

This is the first year in their 45-year history that volunteers will not be able to gather to serve in-person as planned.

Instead, SSP’s young adult staff are creating engaging online opportunities for youth to gather, connecting communities across the state.

Historically, SSP has hosted project sites at various locations across the western United States.

This summer SSP was set to host volunteers in Lake County for the first time since 1999, but the pandemic has forced the nonprofit to convert their summer plans to virtual programming to prevent the spread of the virus.

SSP is offering its summer program to Lake County participants at no cost.
