CLEARLAKE, Calif. – On Tuesday, July 11, the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College Culinary Arts Instructors received first place awards for their participation in the first Lake County Beer, Wine & Swine Baconfest, which took place in Kelseyville on Father’s Day, June 18.
Rick White, first vice president of the Kelseyville Business Association, or KBA, presented the People’s Choice Award and the First Place Award for Best Bacon Entry to chef instructors Robert Cabreros and Ann-Marie Pleskaczewski, and culinary instructional assistant Ian Anderson.
Chef Cabreros and Anderson prepared the entry that earned the People’s Choice Award: an Asian pork belly slider made with a house-made steamed bun, five-spice pork belly, and pickled daikon and carrot slaw.
Chef Pleskaczewski prepared for dessert a maple mousse with candied bacon and griddled vanilla cookie, which won the best bacon entry as determined by a group of celebrity judges.
White said KBA was very excited to have the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College as a participant in Baconfest because it shows the people of Lake County that we have some great resources for young people who are looking for direction and may be contemplating a great career path that is right here in Lake County.
The campus has a wonderful restaurant called Aromas Café, operated by the Culinary Arts students, that will be opening on Sept. 12.
The restaurant will be serving gourmet lunches on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Come and support the college and see what great dishes the students can prepare.
The college campus and Aromas Café are located at 15880 Dam Road Extension in Clearlake. For more information, call the campus at 707-995-7900.
