Middletown Art Center’s ‘Gimme Shelter’ exhibit opens July 15

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Come to the opening night reception for Middletown Art Center’s newest exhibit, “Gimme Shelter,” on Saturday, July 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The exhibit will feature a compelling assortment of contemporary art work by artists addressing the fundamental concept of “shelter.”

It seems simple enough, but “shelter” is a loaded term; home, protection, security, nurturing, a sacred space, a lost place. It’s also of particular relevance to those in Lake County after the fires. This new exhibit highlights a varied and strong response to the notion of shelter.

For new MAC artist Ken Berman, it means a way to provide affordable and mobile housing. He and his wife are pictured above along with “Dorothy,” which will be on view in the ‘Gimme Shelter’ exhibit.

Berman, along with other participating artists, will be on hand during the reception and look forward to folks asking questions about their work.

The “Gimme Shelter” exhibit runs through Sunday, Aug. 20.

The popular Palette to Palate wine and art pairing for the “Gimme Shelter” exhibit will be on Aug. 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Palette to Palate features winemakers and artmakers sharing their creative processes while guests enjoy wine tastings and delving deeper into the work on view.

New exhibits are presented at the MAC approximately every six weeks. Artists and the general public are encouraged to visit the MAC Web site at www.middletownartcenter.org to learn more about MAC’s programming and events including our new project funded by the California Arts Council, “Resilience.”

MAC offers an array of classes for children, adults, and children and their favorite adults to enjoy together. Community events hosted at MAC include open mic, poetry readings, dances films, and a seasonal farmers market.

If you cannot make the opening, visit the MAC Gallery Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Fridays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
