Carl

Week three of the 2009-10 school year has rolled around very quickly, and the students at Carlé High are going stronger than ever. They are continuing to make great progress and do good things in school.

This will be the last week of the thematic course, wrapping up cardiopulmonary resuscitation, sex education, ethics and geography.

Several students in particular have really exceeded expectations and really done an excellent job. Kara Boyce and Stefani Conner have been working extremely hard in their career prep class, completing four tasks already in three weeks, tasks that generally take two weeks apiece.

Kara and Stefani are doing great now, and everyone here at Carlé hopes they do this well the rest of the year. We would like to congratulate Stefani Conner for receiving our student of the week.

The Lake County Bluegrass Festival was celebrated in Anderson Marsh on Sept. 12, and just like many other community events, Carlé was there to help with anything they could. Many students not only helped set up Friday, but donated most of their Saturday as well.

On Friday a group of students went to Anderson Marsh and help set up a large amount of chairs and two stages, and helped several vendors set up their booths.

On Saturday, the day of the actual festival, a large group of students was there all day, helping many vendors set up in the morning, organizing recycling and, in the end, cleaning up as well.

All the vendors were extremely thankful for the help and support they received from all our students. Many also mentioned how impressed they were with the students, claiming they worked thoroughly, efficiently and, above all, with a great attitude and smiling the entire time.

Several students – Vince Copas, Tyler Gillam and Lucas Powell – went well above and beyond. They were there longer than they needed to be, and worked so hard than several of the vendors they were helping remarked, “They worked harder than a lot of fully grown men!”

They broke down two stages, took apart speaker setups, and moved all the hay bales. When all was said and done about half of all of our students took part in this event.

Great job, guys!

We asked Principal Ed Zander how he felt the festival went, and he told us, “I was just really impressed with the effort and attitude the students brought to their work. I think it's great to give back to the community like this, and I love that the community gets to see what great students we have here at Carlé.”

At the end of the festival organizers Gae Henry and Henry Bornstein donated $1,000 to Carlé's student council.

The students who went and helped are: Kara Boyce, Amber Bradford, Jeremy Burton, Vince Copas, Nick Ford, Bianca Frias, Tyler Gillam, Derek Grace, Winter Gray, Ellie Hackler, Josh Hays, Anthony Henson, Geneva Hudson, Michelle LaRue, Tyler Lawson, Doyle Lopez, Lexi Nance, Marco Ochoa, Lucas Powell, Brooke Robb, Shelby Saldana, Paul Silsby, Jackie Stephenson, Aaron Trammell, Cierra Tripp, Alex VonRekowski, Allen Weemes, Ashley Wiebusch, Lenicia Spikes, Will Mcallister and many many more.

Our birthdays this week are Michelle Perry-Alden and Cierra Tripp. Here at Carlé we like to celebrate everyone's birthday and to make them feel especially appreciated and liked on that day.

There is a dinner held on the second Wednesday of every month starting 6 p.m. at the little Lower Lake park, now known as the Russell Rustici Park, put together by the Lower Lake Community Action Group.

Each dinner has a special speaker and a wonderful home cooked meal. All are invited to attend.

Carlé students will be there all through this school year to help out and offer community service. Our part in this dinner is being set up and run by student Kodi Burr.

Kodi's crew worked the second Wednesday of September. The crew that worked consisted of Kodi, Paul Silsby, Geneva Hudson and Brooke Robb.

We hope that this next week and the beginning of our full on academic wheel will continue going as well as the previous weeks.

Phoenix King and Kaitlyn Sliger are students at Carle Continuation High School in Lower Lake.
