Walter Patti
May 29, 1934-Feb. 1, 2014

Walt was born to Joseph and Rose Patti in Pawcatuck, Connecticut.

He served four years in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he went into law enforcement. He became chief of police for Old Saybrook Connecticut Police Department. He then pursued careers in banking and high tech and consulting.

After settling in Lake County, Calif., Walt served on the parole board for the Lake County Sheriff's Department for years. He also served on the Grand Jury and was an usher and served on the Board of the Parish Council for St. Mary Immaculate.

Walt was a very special man to many people and will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jean Patti; daughter, Linda (David) Birck; stepdaughter, Carleen (Samuel) Gacesa; grandchildren, Courtney (Reagan) Jobe, Caitlin Birck, Chris and Jeff Patti, Denise (Chad) Misovec; and great-grandchildren, Charisma, Jack and Joseph Misovec.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Mary Immaculate Church, Lakeport.

The family prefers donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Gaynell “Mitzi” Stedman, born Nov. 8, 1950, sadly passed away Feb. 7, 2014, at the age of 63.

She had been residing in Clearlake since 1996.

She is survived by her beloved longtime partner, Ronnie Bowles, and their six children, Holly Middleton, Ricky Stedman, Tommy Cordova, Mardella Bowles, Ryan Bowles and Rhonda Bowles; and their grandkids, Justin, Shane, Nick, Alissa, Desirae, Anthony, Jeff, Justin, Rachel,
Elisabeth, Elisia, Erika and Ryan Jr.

Our dear mother, grandmother, soulmate, and friend will be missed dearly.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Jerry M. Albo Sr., a resident of Lake County, passed away Feb. 7, 2014, at the age of 71.

He was born to Pete and Mary Albo Feb. 28, 1942, in Durango, Colo.

He married Beckie Arellano in 1959 and they raised five children.

In 1968 they moved to Farmington, NM, and started P&A Construction in the early 1970s. In 1987 they moved to California. Jerry retired from the heavy equipment operators union.

Jerry was well respected for his knowledge and skill on the backhoe.

He loved all types of fishing and big game hunting. He loved to entertain and throw big backyard barbecues.
    
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Debra.

He is survived by his wife, Beckie; children, Polly Boughan of Texas, Gloria Albo of New Mexico, Jerry Albo Jr. of Lakeport, Michelle Albo of Clearlake Oaks; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St. in Lakeport, from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, with a Rosary starting at 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be at St. Peters Catholic Church, 4085 Main St. in Kelseyville, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Eugene F. Magoon passed away on Jan. 22, 2014, at the age of 88.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1925, in Sanger, Calif., to the late Chester and Nina Magoon.

Gene served in World War II as a sergeant in the infantry in Europe and received two Purple Hearts.

Upon his return he attended Fresno State and received a bachelor's degree in science, then went on to attain a PhD in chemistry at Oregon State.

Gene worked as a research scientist for Shell Development in Emeryville before moving to Lower Lake in 1971, where he owned and operated Magoon's General Store, and Magoon's West Custom Jewelry and Art Gallery.

He also owned a dulcimer manufacturing business, Black Mountain Instruments, in partnership with Dave Johnston; a bookstore, Jabberwocky Books, in partnership with Ginger Ingersoll and Charlotte Griswold; the Lake Art Center in Clearlake, in partnership with Mel Flyer and Joan Casserly; and was a founding member of the Upstairs Gallery in Lakeport, and the Vines Gallery in Calistoga.

His creative drive compelled him to teach himself woodworking, stained glass, sculpture and jewelry making. He was an avid reader, and loved sailing, participating in many races as a member of the Konocti Bay Sailing Club.

Gene served his community as a fireman for the Lower Lake Volunteer Fire Department, on the Lake County Planning Committee, 10 years as a board member of the Lower Lake County Water District and 13 years as a school board member for the Konocti Unified School District.

He also was a charter member of the Clear Lake Rotary Club, with perfect attendance for 40 years, and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Gene is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Randy (Nancy) Magoon, Kerry (Jamie) Magoon, Jamie (Karen) Gekas, Joni (Mike) Epidendio, Julie Jones (Casey) Wasem, and Steve (Heather) Johnson; brother, Gerald Magoon; two nephews; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Janice Magoon and Pegeen Magoon Murphy, and a granddaughter.

Gene was an intelligent, creative, sociable individual with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by his family, friends and community.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lower Lake Community United Methodist Church, 16255 Second St. A reception will follow at the social hall adjacent to the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gene Magoon Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts through the Clear Lake Rotary Club, or to the charity of your choice.

Wanda A. Hanke
March 6, 1927 – Feb. 9, 2014

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Wanda A. Hanke died on Feb. 9, 2014, at age 86.

She is survived by son, Gary (Tina) Fugit; sister, Peggy Freel; nieces, Penny, Kristi and Lori Freel; grandchildren, Jason Fugit and Audra Huston; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by Edwin Hanke.

She will be missed by the many friends she had over the years, especially Carl and Theresa Herrin.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Joe George passed away February 7, 2014, in Napa.

He was born in Finley in 1931.

Joe was an adored husband, father and grandfather whose family was his life.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War serving on Martin Mars as flight engineer.

He enjoyed teaching high school business for 35 years, building and remodeling homes, traveling, gardening, boating on Clear Lake, real estate, photography, automobiles and woodworking.  

He was commodore of the Lakeport Yacht Club, served in the Buckingham Homeowners Association as president and board member, served on the building committee at Grace Church in Kelseyville, was a charter member of Sunrise Rotary, Elks, Masonic Lodge in San Francisco, and California Teachers Association.

Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia; daughter, Ivanne; son, Tony; brother, David; sister, Sharon and their spouses; grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, Lakeport.
