LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – As part of its ongoing efforts to provide quality care and services to the community, Hospice Services of Lake County is offering patient support/bereavement volunteer training for adults who want to make a difference.

“An Introduction to the Role of Patient Support/Bereavement” is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

This introduction is followed by two days of training on Tuesdays, Oct. 1 and 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The trainings will take place at the Hospice Services of Lake County offices, 1862 Parallel Drive, Lakeport.

“Volunteers provide companionship to patients through conversation and being a compassionate presence,” said Laurie Fisher, Hospice Services spiritual caregiver.

Training sessions provide new volunteers with knowledge and skills for visiting patients in hospice care and offering some respite for the patients’ caregivers.

“You will also learn ways to provide bereavement support to the patients’ loved ones and family members at one of our camps or support groups,” Fisher said.

Training is provided by staff involved in all areas of Hospice care. The volunteers-in-training will learn skill sets and practical information to become successful hospice volunteers.

All training materials will be provided free of charge. Participants must be age 18 or older.
