NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Firefighters on Monday held the Sites fire in Colusa County to minimal growth while making substantial gains in containment.
The fire, burning since Sunday afternoon, is located along Sites Lodoga Road and Campground Road, southeast of Stonyford.
Cal Fire said Monday night that the fire’s size had grown by 20 acres to a total of 560 acres, with containment up to 55 percent.
Assigned to the fire on Monday night were 240 personnel, including 14 crews, Cal Fire said.
Fire crews made progress working on containment lines on Monday, with Cal Fire reporting that crews would continue to strengthen control lines and mop up overnight.
Evacuation orders for areas along Sites Lodoga Road and Campground Road were reduced from mandatory to advisory on Monday night, and roads in the area were reopened to the public after 9 p.m.
With fire personnel still active in the area working on or near the roadway throughout the night, officials asked motorists to reduce speeds and drive with caution.
