NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Fire crews are remaining on scene overnight to stop a vegetation fire burning in neighboring Colusa County.
The Sites fire was first reported at 4:15 p.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of Sites Lodoga Road in Colusa County.
In a late Sunday night report, Cal Fire said the fire had burned 540 acres and was 20 percent contained.
Cal Fire said 12 structures are threatened, but none have so far been damaged or destroyed.
Crews arrived on Sunday afternoon to find the fire being pushed by the wind at a dangerous rate of spread, Cal Fire reported.
During the day, ground crews with the support of aircraft were able to make good progress on the fire. Cal Fire credited the hard work and quick actions of personnel at the scene with allowing crews to hold the fire to the east of Squaw Creek Inn.
Overnight, crews are working on containment lines, Cal Fire said.
On Sunday, evacuations had been issued for the 3300 block of Sites Lodoga Road at Campground Road.
Road closures also were put in place at Sites Lodoga Road and Lodoga Stonyford Road and Sites Lodoga Road to the community of Sites.
Cal Fire said road closures and evacuations will remain in place through the night at the minimum.
Resources assigned to the fire include 24 engines, three helicopters, five hand crews, 15 dozers, eight air tankers and 240 personnel.
