Christmas tree disposal begins today

LAKEPORT - Today the City of Lakeport will begin offering free Christmas tree disposal to city residents.

The disposal service, available behind the Lakeport County Fire Protection District facility at 445 N. Main St., will last until Jan. 8, 2007, according to a city statement.

City staff request that residents please make sure that all tree lights, ornaments and stands are removed.

Lakeport Disposal reduces greenwaste pickup

LAKEPORT - Beginning next week, Lakeport city residents will have their greenwaste picked up once a month only, rather than every week.

Effective Jan. 1 through April 30, 2007, residents are asked to put their yard waste toters out for pick up on your regularly-scheduled trash pick-up day during the first week of the month only.

Customers who generate large amounts of yard waste can contact Lakeport Disposal at 707-263-6080 Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to request additional toters. Lakeport Disposal staff will evaluate the request and provide additional toters if needed.

The Lakeport City Council recently agreed to cut the greenwaste pickups after Lakeport Disposal reported rising costs and lower-than-estimated gross revenues, according to acting City Manager Richard Knoll.

Lakeport Disposal holds a contract with the city for mandatory garbage pickup, which went into effect in January 2004. Last week, the city approved a 1.4 percent cost-of-living increase in the city's garbage rates, which is a stipulation of its contract with the disposal company.
