This 1946 film noir mystery stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, not rated. Bogey plays hardboiled L.A. private eye, Philip Marlowe, who follows a trail peopled with murderers, pornographers, nightclub rogues and the spoiled rich. Directed by Howard Hawks; screenplay by William Faulkner and Raymond Chandler.  While the plot is a bundle of confusion, the film lives on as a classic with palpable onscreen chemistry between Bogey and Bacall, sinister views of 1940s Los Angeles, and an intelligent, witty script.
