Poindexter pleads not guilty to charges PDF Print E-mail

LAKEPORT – A local California Highway Patrol officer pleaded not guilty on Friday to allegations of fraud and elder abuse.

The Lake County District Attorney's Office filed the felony charges on Wednesday against 48-year-old Kelseyville resident Timothy Poindexter, a sergeant with the Clear Lake CHP office.

District Attorney Jon Hopkins said the charges arose out of an investigation his office conducted on a real estate transaction in which Poindexter was purchasing property from an elderly Finley couple.

Poindexter pleaded not guilty during his Friday morning appearance before visiting Superior Court Judge Galen Hathaway, Hopkins reported.

Hathaway released Poindexter on his own recognizance, Hopkins said, and ordered that Poindexter be booked the same day at the Lake County Jail.

Fran Clader, a spokesperson with the CHP's Sacramento headquarters, said Poindexter has served with the CHP for 26 years. He has worked at CHP offices around the state, including Napa, Alturas and Gilroy. He joined the Clear Lake CHP office in August 2001.

Hopkins told Lake County News on Thursday that after the charges were filed the CHP put Poindexter on administrative leave, pending completion of an internal affairs investigation.

Hopkins said Deputy District Attorney Joyce Campbell is prosecuting the case. Representing Poindexter is Judy Conard, an experienced defense attorney with Alvord & Conard law firm in Lakeport.

A call to Conard's office seeking comment on the case was not returned.

Poindexter is set to return to court for a preliminary hearing on July 13, Hopkins said.

the victim in this case is a friend of mine, who is a WW II combat vet. The perp is a complete jerk who took an old pear orcard out to build a huge, ugly McMansion which is surrounded by a horribly ugly fence he built right next to the narrow county road we live on. Big ego, big house, big fence, little dick, it all goes hand-in-hand, doesn't it? So what's the rate of criminal cops in Lake County now, 30% ? Theives, child molesters, liars, what next?
Two sides

Smurf,
I also know this very nice elderly gentleman. In his day, he never would have done something like this. I feel afraid for all of us if the District Attorneys office really thinks they have a case this time. In this case, I'm afraid the DA is way off base.
Yes, there are two sides to every story and it will be good to hear both of these.
By the way, Mr. Poindexter does not have any fencing on his property.
Seems to me this is a case of two good guys with some misunderstandings which have been mistaken by local authorities to be worth a little front page news.

It sounds to me like smurf is a little jelous. As pointed out by catlady Mr. Poindexter has no fence on his property, and the beautiful house he built, most NORMAL people would love to have. Speaking of fences if smurf would learn how to build one maybe his horse wouldn't be caught wandering up and down the road. Like most of the people smurf writes about he probably doesn't even know Mr. Poindexter. I have had the plesure of meeting him and Mr. Poindexter actually is a very nice person. Smurf, people that live in a shit house wouldn't be expected to appreciate a nice house anyways.
