CLEARLAKE OAKS – A fire damaged a cabin at a Northshore resort Sunday morning.

The fire took place at the Blue Fish Cove Resort in Clearlake Oaks.

The call went out at about 8:15 a.m., said Northshore Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ken Petz.

Northshore Fire was assisted in fighting the blaze by Lake County Fire Protection District, said Petz.

Petz said the fire started when a man was working on a gas stove in the kitchen of a vacation cabin.

The man also was caught on fire in the blaze, and was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital by a Lake County Fire Protection medic unit, Petz said.

Four fire engines – three from Northshore Fire and one from Lake County Fire – and between 15 and 20 firefighters responded to the scene, said Petz.

Petz said the fire was brought under control in 30 minutes, with the mop up process taking about an hour.

He estimated that the cabin was close to being a total loss.

Randy and Suzanne Olsen purchased the resort last August.

Suzanne Olsen said the resort is still open for business, and they'll be fixing up the damaged cabin right away.

She said that the man who was working on the stove is OK and was back at home on Sunday afternoon.

He doesn't smoke and they are very nice people. We should support them in their recovery. I know I will!

I hate to see this happen to such nice people, who have just invested in our county. Lets all come together and support them in their recovery, and show them our community spirit!

and glad no one was horribly injured. Blue Fish Cove Resort is right up there as one of the cutest and well maintained resorts on the Hwy 20 corridor. Resorts like this are such a positive addition to the image of Clearlake.
So Happy that you are okay

Before you call people

"Morans" make sure you turn your spell checker on. Talk about being ignorant.

Back to topic I'm glad that nobody was seriously injured. I listened to this call from start to finish and the responders had originally requested an air ambulance but was turned down due to weather. I was wondering all day what happend to the guy and am glad to read that he was treated and released all in the same day.

Oh, also know that in that explosion my brother was engulfed in flames. He is lucky to be alive!! Chew on that bone and think about that next time you want to make a moron comment. Get the facts first!!! Thank you to everyone else for your kind words and thoughts.
Thanks for the update, Keta

Glad your brother is doing OK. Here's hoping for a full and speedy recovery.

For those asking about how to help, just remember the local "Shop, Stay and Play" campaign and promote the local resorts -- tell your relatives and friends to come for a visit. The folks who keep their places looking great deserve our support.
The Community Should All Pitch In...
written by Curbside, February 25, 2009
My feeling is that we should all pitch in. I'm sure we can't help Suzanne & Randy by doing something like helping to repair things, but we can stay a couple of nights or maybe send some relatives there when they come to visit. I'm sure a positive review on Yelp! (with spell checker enabled, please!) or some kind words about your experience staying at the Blue Fish Cove will also go a long way.

I'm not sure if they would want us all there swinging a hammer to help rebuild the cabin, but I'm sure that they would appreciate a referral or even a stay at their resort!

Most of all I'm glad he was not very seriously injured in this freak accident. I'm wishing a super speedy and complete recovery and I hope they have an ultra busy summer with lots of friendly neighbors and visitors from LakeCoNews.com sending their friends and relatives and even staying themselves.

These are some very nice people who have invested in Lake County and brought enthusiasm and a positive attitude as well as some good experience. I hope they're not tarnished by some less than thoughtful comments here. Remember when businesses do well on the Lake it reflects in all of our pockets.
