Redbud Community Hospital to undergo name change PDF Print E-mail

CLEARLAKE – For years, it's been known as Redbud Community Hospital, but that's about to end.

Adventist Health officials announced late Friday that Redbud Community Hospital is undergoing a name change, and will henceforth be known as St. Helena Hospital-Clearlake

The new name becomes effect on Nov. 3, at which time the hospital will hold an inauguration ceremony on its campus to honor the past and celebrate the future.

Hospital administration said the switch is meant to better reflect the joint operating partnership between St. Helena Hospital in Napa County and St. Helena Hospital-Clearlake. Under that agreement, the hospitals coordinate a comprehensive spectrum of health care services for Napa, Lake, Solano, Sonoma and Mendocino counties.

“This process began more than two years ago as the two hospitals aligned their governing board, executive team, operations and many regional positions,” said JoAline Olson, the hospital's president and chief executive officer. “St. Helena Hospital has an excellent reputation in Lake, Napa and surrounding counties and is known for its high quality patient care and patient satisfaction, as well as its centers of excellence.”

Linda Gibson, senior vice president of operations at Redbud and a longtime senior administrator at St. Helena Hospital, said, “With the name change, we are extending the St. Helena brand and reputation to Lake County and strengthening our position as a regional provider of health care services.”

St. Helena Hospital-Clearlake is investing approximately $10 million in new and upgraded facilities in Lake County, including an emergency department expansion, remodeled surgery suites, a sophisticated electronic medical records system, a new hospital front entrance, new equipment, and a new family health center in Kelseyville.

In addition to being the second largest employer in Lake County, the hospital provided the following services last year: 76,000 rural health clinic visits, 57,000 outpatient visits, 15,000 emergency department visits and 1,600 in-patient visits.

Both St. Helena Hospital-Clearlake and Napa's St. Helena Hospital are part of the 19-hospital network of Adventist Health, a nonprofit, faith-based health system operating in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.

Dichotomously Named Hospital C
written by futhark, October 18, 2008
I've often wondered how much time and gasoline has been wasted over the years by out-of-the-area visitors driving to Clearlake to attend an event at Clear Lake High School (in Lakeport). I could envision that a person unfamiliar with local naming quirks and confused by the geographically dichotomous new name of the hospital might drive all the way to St. Helena with a critically ill or injured person, not realizing that there is a hospital in Clearlake. Yes, there is a hospital in St. Helena, which would serve as long as the patient survived the journey. Names do matter. What would be wrong with the name Clearlake Adventist Hospital? Since there is not town of Adventist locally, no one would have a reason for confusion on this issue.

It seems that the namers of hospitals have a certain proclivity for annoying the public with their ambiguities: my wife complained to me last summer about driving all over Santa Rosa to find the correct Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa, of which there are three. Yes, they have "campus" names, but these can easily be overlooked after writing down the first five words.
It will always be Redbud.

The fact the the quality of care has gone up should be enough of a change. The adventst health people have done a good job but it seems arrogant to change the name of a landmark such as this. People will always call it Redbud. I know I will. Those who like to be negative will still call it "Deadbud". The ony people who will call it St. Helena are the staff. Probably because they are trying to rise above what they feel about the people in this area. Sad really. Not to mention that the Redbud is a symbol of our county. Change things that will count not things that are meaningless.
Psych Hosp - St Helena - Valle

Don't forget that this chain already confuses everyone with the name St Helena. The St Helena Hosp for Mental Health is not in St Helena, it is in VALLEJO. I know of at least 2 people looking for that hopital to go to the town of St Helena, only to find they are 30 or so miles off. This will make things even more confusing...like, "Is the St Helena Hosp in Clearlake the mental health hosp??" Considering the name issue, I would think so for the administration!!!
Maybe smeone should think it o

I am an Adventist, and totally agree with the insanity of calling a hospital in Clearlake by the name of 'St Helena something or other'. Redbud has a great reputation around here for being part of the excellent Adventist Health system. Personally, having moved up here just five years ago, I did not know it was Adventist, until non-Adventists told me it was. Maybe us Adventists are the only ones in the dark about it?

I am sending a copy of all of these remarks to there corporate offices in Roseville - maybe they can conjure up a better solution.

I moved up here from the Bay Area, and even up here I noticed that we still call the 49er's stadium "Candlestick Park"! Hmmmm, I wonder why?
Hey, whattya know, I kinda

sorta agree with cale_page, it will always be Deadbud Hospital down in the Highlands and Lakeside will always be Graveside. And the Bank in Upper Lake will always be the Bank of Upper Lake no matter what sign they put outside. I have always gotten great care at Deadbud, can't say the same for Graveside.
