NICE – Officials are looking for a man who allegedly held up a woman at a gas station this week.

A woman pumping at the Marina Market on Highway 20 was robbed just after 2 p.m. Thursday, according to Capt. James Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Bauman said the woman, a 55-year-old Lucerne resident, was at the gas pumps when a male subject approached her.

The man allegedly told the woman to hand over her wallet; he also told her that another subject was parked behind the market with a gun, according to Bauman.

The frightened woman handed over her wallet to the man, who disappeared behind the market, Bauman said.

She then heard a vehicle start up and leave, but Bauman noted that she never actually saw the vehicle come out from behind the market.

Bauman said the suspect is described as a Hispanic or American Indian male who is in his 30s, with a husky build, shoulder-length black hair and a tattoo on his neck. He was reportedly wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt.

The stolen wallet, Bauman said, contained about $1,000 in cash as the woman was on her way to the post office to pay some bills with money orders.

If anyone has any information on the case they should call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 262-4200.

Perhaps it is time that the senior centers or law enforcement provide some classes to people with the tools to combat this type of behavior.

Screaming, panic button on the car's remote or moving away.

If the robber said SOMEONE else had a weapon any of the above could have helped.

seniors, or anybody; please don't carry around this kind of cash. set up a simple checking account, and have your payments sent directly to the bank. pay your bills by check and only carry enough cash for a few days at the most. Hope the lowlife is caught.

Hi...my name is Sandy. I am the woman who was robbed at the Marina Market in Nice. Thank you for your suggestions. I feel I need to respond to your messages.

First of all, I don't normally carry that much cash with me. I usually bank and pay my bills online or with checks. However, my computer was down and I was also waiting for my checks from BofA. I have been a customer with them for 13 years. The money was safe in our home until I decided to go to the Nice post office to get money orders.

I have had several workshops on self defense. However, if one has never experienced the terrors of being robbed it's difficult to use that training when you're gripped with terror. Normally I'm very good at handling stressful situations, but this caught me off guard.

Things are so bad with our economy that people are doing whatever it takes to just be able to live and support a family.

I just turned 55 and I probably would have made better decisions but I am disabled and can't move as fast as I used to.

I worked in human services for over 25 years before I bacame disabled in 2002. I now live on about one half of what I used to make. We are living in poverty and this was the worst thing that could have happened.

I'm just praying that our mortgage company doesn't forclose. I have been playing catch up for the last 6 months by paying an extra $100 per month.

I don't know what we are going to do.
We don't have relatives to help us so I would appreciate your prayers. God bless everyone for their love and support.

I also want to commend the sheriff's department for being professional yet caring.

Sandy

That description describes literally hundreds of men!
Do the authorities really think they have a chance of finding him?
When I worked for the County--all the Sheriff's Dept, and DA's Office ever did was sit in their office and surf the net--and send me stupid "forwards" from their personal and County e-mail accounts.
That poor woman should just consider herself lucky-and forget about ever seeing justice served.
