Temperatures surpass forecast expectations PDF Print E-mail

THE LOCATION OF THE THERMOMETER HAS BEEN CORRECTED.

LAKE COUNTY – The National Weather Service in Sacramento issued a Special Weather Statement for Lake County and areas of Northern California that went into effect Monday, forecasting high temperatures in the upper 90s in Lake County.

However, they were wrong.

The high in Lakeport on Monday was 103, according to the thermometer at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on High Street. This writer's Subaru thermometer recorded a high of 106 degrees as she attempted not to melt upon entering her car after work.

The National Weather Service states that it could reach a high of 110 by Thursday – so now might be a good time to stock up on some ice and go swimming.

Triple digit temperatures
written by DerBingel, July 08, 2008
It was 104 in the shade at my place around 1:30 PM on Monday, and I know it was even hotter heading into mid afternoon.

The clinic on Lakeshore Drive across the street from Foods-4-Less reflected 104 at 7:23 PM.
way off

Jones Mortuary's thermometer (as well as time) is off. I drive by it several times a day.

The high temp at my house at the north end of Lakeport was 109 @ around 4pm.
Record high low temps, too

I have three thermometers in the full shade. They topped out at 109, 112, and 113 degrees, respectively.

In the six years we have lived in Lake County, the low temperature was never above 65 until this year. Last night the low was 70.2. An all time record for us.

I like hot weather (especially at night with the crickets and all), but the smoke has made it sort of yucky.

Stay cool, folks
JONES MORTUARY???

Jones has no therometer and is located on Main St. You are probably talking about Chapel of the Lakes and it is not necessarily wrong. It is common to have many different temps within a city and many different devices to measure them..
It is safe to say that it is HOT man....
No, HOT is being

in Iraq in full battle rattle gear. Then toss in a sand storm which deposits sand in places you didn't know you had. At least we can always go jump in the Lake.
Hot Beans, cool streams

thermometers

All temperatures are read in the shade. People often refer to 100 degrees in the shade, 110 in the shade, etc. Repeat. All temperature readings are in the shade. Put a themometer in the sun sometime and see what happens.

It was 107 here south of Lower Lake. Make sure your thermometers (and you) stay in the shade.

Conventional thermometers are always located in shaded areas out of direct sunlight, and only measure the ambient air temperature within that vicinity, hence, why a variance in readings from thermometers in different locations.

Accurate temperature out in the open is taken by a device that measures ambient air temperature existing from all sides.
Nat. Weather Service

Excessive Heat Warning is what the Nat. Weather Service is saying about Lake County this afternoon & it's expected to stay this way until the weekend, then a very slight cooling.

If you have elderly neighbors, please check on them - the heat is very hard on them.

By 11:30 this a.m., our thermometer was reading 110 in the shade - ugh.

BLA BLA BLA
Stick those rectal thermometers where they belong. Mine read 98.6 when I took it out.
