Because a charge is made, makes it so? Because he is a priest makes it true. Your pain in no way convects FR. Ted Oswald and because we might give him the benefit of not believing would not mean he is not to answer if proven to be true. He has my loyalty unless shown other wise. "church going" friend, no not this church in question. She was very upset this week and told me that her family has decided to stop attending the church they have gone to for a very long time, due to some problems with the preacher. I gave her a big ol' hug and told her God has a direct line, no middleman needed. Use the direct line and you won't have these problems.

the charges are false in these cases, but I know what the odds are and they aren't good. Let's let them see if the truth will come out in court as it usually does, it's OK to be generally supportive but to make the claims that some have about this being a scam is over the top, there has been too much blind faith displayed by some of Ted's pals.
The bigger problem here is the fact that the catholic church recruits from a demographic of men that includes FAR too many molesters, until priests can marry that won't change.

But if a priest or nun sides with poor Indigenous or metis people in South or Central America, and against the injustice and terror perpetuated against them by military dictatorships, the Vatican is all over them!
By the way ministers, who can marry, have also been known to molest children...In Church-run Indian Residential Schools here and in Canada, Indian children were sexually molested and physically and emotionally abused by not only the Catholic but the Anglican, Presbyterian and United Churches...Some of these children died under electrocution or while beaten to death (28 mass graves of Indian children have been found so far on Indian Residential Schools property in Canada, some of these schools operating well into the 1980's...children skeletons have been found under floor boards and between walls...additionally 50 000 Indian children disappeared without a trace in Canada under this program).
As Donna said, if you want to communicate with some sort of a higher power, get a direct line and bypass the perverted middleman (or woman). Who needs them?

All the evil done by others is his to bare? The willingness to toss stones to strike out with anger for things not of his doing. What about the presumption of inocence? How you pray or to what God I could care less or the doors you inter seeking that God. Your life your call. If it is true then I have lost a person that I admired.Hope his God is with him.

I never said the evil done by others was his to bare...The problem is that he represents one of the corrupted Churches. So there is a shadow cast over him already.
The other problem is that this Church (the Catholic Church) has never been honest regarding these matters...so there are doubts regarding the people from the Church who support him...
By the way, priests and nuns do get it on occasionally...tiny skeletons of aborted fetuses from pregnant nuns have been found on Catholic property in Europe...How can this be?? The Catholic Church doesn't really care about the sexual activities of priests, nuns or monks...They could have sex with donkeys for all the Vatican cares, as long as it doesn't involve love. Love is reserved for God.
See the mad logic? For an official of the Church, sex without love is fine, as long as it is done in secrecy of course, and never admitted...sex with love would be considered a failure and a break of the wows of chastity.

When one paints a accused abuser with the same brush as CONVICTED sex offenders, then yes, you have said they must bear the "cross" of guilt no matter the facts.

As Father Oswald has said, he wants his day in court. He is innocent until proven guilty.

What everyone needs to keep in mind is the case of sexual abuse in L.A. that involved many children that ended in not guilty verdicts BECAUSE THE CHILDREN WERE COACHED by the psychologist. There was no abuse. The accused adults still bear the stigma of being accused.

Recovered memories are suspect.

This is not about the sins of the catholic church but the sin of Fr. Oswald. I will not judge him, the person I know by the sins of others. If time over this matter shows me to be the fool and Oswald is guilty, I presumed him innocent would be my only error.

I believe the catholic church needs to quite making (or allowing) excuses for these people (or reasons for these people to be excused). If you have a reasonable suspicion that someone has committed a crime then arrest them and take them to trial. Yes, we are "innocent until proven guilty" and we should allow that respectfully but we should not allow people who are committing crimes to be excused from the consequences just because they hold a title (no matter what that title is).

right purplegirl, the man is innocent until proven guilty but the Church is not.
The Church is corrupt and as perverted and hypocritical as anything could be, and disgusting. I have no sympathy for pedophiles, nor will I abstain from judging a religious institution that protects them, and accumulates lies upon lies to shield them (the Vatican).
It is completely normal for people to be more than a little suspicious of the Church when such a case pops up, given its rotten and revolting record.
