Investigation continues into puzzling stabbing case PDF Print E-mail

KELSEYVILLE – Two weeks after a confrontation in downtown Kelseyville resulted in a stabbing, authorities continue to try to get answers about who was responsible for the assault.

As Lake County News first reported early last week, the stabbing occurred in the early morning hours of May 16 on Kelseyville's Main Street.

Chief Deputy James Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said a 20-year-old man was hospitalized with a stab wound following the confrontation, which was not gang-related. The victim reportedly underwent surgery.

But despite the fact that there were as many as four people listed as victims in the event – including the young man who was stabbed – and at least seven more who were witnesses, Bauman said getting straight answers from those involved has been a challenge.

“We haven't gotten to the bottom of it,” he said.

The confrontation appears to have involved different parties of adults who were out having dinner and drinks that evening at the Saw Shop Gallery Bistro, according to accounts Lake County News has received on the case.

The incident reportedly resulted from words that were exchanged between individuals in the various parties, leading to a physical fight that involved both male and female participants. The stabbing victim and another young man were caught up in the situation after having arrived there with the intent of giving a ride home to a subject who had been drinking.

However, as Lake County News approached various people who had reportedly been present that night or who had family members involved, they said they were unable to comment due to the ongoing investigation.

Kim Sullivan, whose husband, Dave, was injured that night would only confirm that he was recovering.

A staffer with the office of dentist Dr. Keith Long, who had been having dinner that night with friends before the confrontation took place, said Long “was jumped and he wants it to all just go away.”

Likewise, sheriff's investigators continue to have trouble getting clear information from witnesses and victims, including the young man who was stabbed, Bauman said.

Because stories haven't remained consistent, the case remains a challenge, Bauman said.

“It is still pending,” he said. “We have not given up and the Investigations Branch is still working on it.”

Anyone with information on the case should call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 262-4200.

I wish your son

well in his recovery and hope the DA's office doesn't decide to charge him with his own stabbing - not like that precedent doesn't exist here. Good luck in healing and your search for justice in Lake County.
liles, lies, and more lies!!!
written by cdiener, May 30, 2008
My son is the stabbing victim they are talking about in this article. First off, this DID NOT happen anywhere near the Brick Tavern it happened right outside the Saw Shop Bistro in Kelseyville!!! Secondly, my son had to have 6 inches of his small intestine removed and laid in that hospital 5 DAYS!!!! Not once did any law enforcement attempt to talk to him or even see if he was alive!!! Thirdly, it wasn't until I started contacting the Record Bee, the DA's office, and ABC news that they started taking this crime incident seriously. So, this article yet again is not only misreported but seems to be a cover up of what is really going on!!! This happened May 15th and it is May 30th and the Sheriff Dept. did not even take a statement from the Sullivans until yesterday and have yet to get a statement from my son!!!!! So do not believe this B.S. misreported agenda here....seems to me Lake co. news and the Record Bee are sweet on not reporting offensive detail (meaning not to step on anyones toes)well my son deserves Justice and Truth!!! Yeah, I am sure Keith Long wants this all to go away with his violent history and former run ins with fighting....JUMPED....yeah right what else is he going to claim the only injury this guy has results from people fighting for their lives. I am not saying he is the one who stabbed my son but he ABSOLUTELY knows who did whether it be him or not!!! The sad thing is he just might get his wishes of this all going away since he is in with all the right people...how else do you beat the crap out of someone and/or stab someone and get away with it???....you have people in high places that's how!!! This is such a great INJUSTICE and my son will have to endure this forever....is it fair that no one will pay for what they did??? What if it was your loved one??? Well, if they can't get this guy off the street...next time it could be your loved one!!!
Why is it so hard to get Justi
written by dq251978, May 30, 2008
I don't understand why it could take this long to found out any information about this case. People that were there that night need to stand up and tell what happen. And quit acting like they are still in high school. Someone was stabb doesn't that matter to anyone. Maybe kelseyville is not that safe like people say. I guess if you don't have money or kiss people's ass then you don't get any protection. That is the way I see it. No wonder people talk bad about lake county. Because we have people lie just to protect people that have money and that are well know in the area.
Time for a big change
written by jerrod, May 30, 2008
It's time for a change. I think it's time the elected officals step up to the plate and make sure that the local Law Enforcement are doing there jobs. Making Lake county a safe place to live. That county has a good old boy system that needs to change. Maybe it's time to get new people in those elected positions. That are willing and able to make a diffrence, to make Lake county a safe and better place to live.
Wait a Second

Your suppose to be the reporter not the accuser. When your son is injured and your running around from the hospital to Dr's and everything in-between not being able to take your last min message phone recording to call you back on this matter is a far cry from "refused to return calls and answer questions" Look above, I think she has said a lot and has a lot more on her mind. Get out there and do the reporting like it needs to be done and in a timely manner. Up until this point 15 days later, I didn't know if their was a gang or crazy person out on the streets. Get reporting! Call the Sheriffs dept and leave a message for an update on the story. Then tell us if they have not returned your calls like their suppose too. Give us names so we can make them accountable.
We\'re working on it
written by elarson, May 30, 2008
Lisa, we're trying to get to the bottom of it. Apparently, there has been some crossed lines of communication.

And I have called the sheriff's office on this repeatedly. Please don't assume because a story isn't published that we aren't working on it. If I can't get information properly corroborated, how can I write a story?
I believe we will get justice
written by tonyvel, May 30, 2008
My grandson was the young man stabbed that night. My daughter and our whole family are very upset about the lack of info from authorities after this attempted murder took place. The last few days have been very encouraging. I believe Loren will get justice and the person that stabbed him will be brought to justice. I would like to thank Elizabeth Larson of the Lake County News for working with my daughter to get the story out there.

JUMPED! I DON\'T THINK SO!
written by MOMOF1, May 31, 2008
KEITH LONG'S STAFF STATES HE WAS "JUMPED" THEN WHY IS IT THAT NEITHER HE OR HIS OTHER 6 FRIENDS THAT WERE WITH HIM DID NOT CALL 911 OR EVEN CONTACT THE POLICE. THE 911 CALL WAS MADE BY THE VICTIMS ON THE SCENE. KEITH LONG NEVER CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE POLICE UNTIL THEY CONTACTED HIM 5 DAYS LATER.

Elizabeth Larson you made a reply to cdiener that she did not call you and refused to answer questions.

I responded that she may of been way to busy at the time caring for her son and that you need to get more reporting done on this issue and ask the police for more answers. You might remember me saying that it has been 15 days later and I still did not know if there was some kind of gang running loose or if we had a crazy loose on the streets of Kelseyville.

You responded by saying some communication may have got crossed and that you have asked the police and they have not responded to your requests.

NOW! all those comments have disappeared from this forum. Elizabeth it is either that through some glitch those comments that perhaps you thought put you in a bad light and that you did not like just disappeared - OR

That you are censoring what is said when you dislike the opinions given?

While I know none of my comments ever have profanity in them you can not blame it on that.

ELIZABETH LARSON WHY ARE YOU SENSORING MY COMMENTS! THE ONES THAT I HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO HAVE! HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS DISAPEAR IF YOU DON"T LIKE THEM.

WE ARE ALL WAITING FOR YOUR DOUBLE TALK ANSWER ON THIS ONE!

The next thing is that I will not be able to post an opinion on this site. If that happens I will make sure that other papers read about it and the radio reports it.
Your comments weren\'t removed

Lisa,

I didn't take down your comments. I did take down my own. That shouldn't have affected yours, unless there was some glitch. We only remove libelous comments.

There Gone!
written by LisaCLK, May 31, 2008
Well there not there anymore unless now your implying that my comments were libelous?
That\'s not what I\'m saying
written by elarson, May 31, 2008
You're not understanding me. I'm not saying they were libelous. I realize they're gone, but I didn't take them down and I have no idea about what happened. I need to ask my Webmaster.

There wasn't any attempt to censor you. I only removed my own comments. Everyone else's, including yours, were still there and just fine. There's clearly something amiss because I've tried posting this response to you three times and the comments are disappearing, only to show up later.
ok
written by LisaCLK, June 01, 2008
It's a glitch. but if I am making comments to yours or someone else's comments I would hope they would leave them up and not take them down for some reason? My comments made to another's after they have removed them would seem bizarre and meaningless. I would also think that as the online papers editor whenever you make a comment it should stay for sure.
Point taken
written by elarson, June 01, 2008
As I said, I had only intended to take mine down because I felt, in retrospect, it wasn't appropriate. I'll know better in the future.
Thank you
