COBB – The Lake County Genealogical Society will present a tour of the Glenbrook Cemetery, also known as the Cobb Valley or Hoberg Cemetery, this coming weekend.

The group will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, to tour the cemetery on Bottle Rock Road.

The tour will include some history about the cemetery and the families that are buried there. Anyone with knowledge of the families interred in the Glenbrook Cemetery is welcome to attend and tell the stories.

To reach the cemetery from Kelseyville: Go south on Highway 29 to Bottle Rock Road, about two miles from Kelseyville. Turn right onto Bottle Rock Road and go about 7.5 miles. The cemetery is on the right.

From Middletown: Take Highway 175 west to Cobb. At the gas station in Cobb, turn left onto Bottle Rock Road. The cemetery is about 4.5 miles on the left.

Parking is limited, so sharing rides is suggested.

Following the tour, there will be a demonstration of grave dowsing with a chance to try it yourself. For people who would like to try grave dowsing, this will be the last tour until the Genealogy Society starts meeting again in the fall.

The Genealogical Society is still looking for yearbooks from Lake County schools. If anyone has any yearbooks, either from any high school, middle school, or elementary school in Lake County, and would like to find them a good home, please contact us.

The society’s research library is housed in the Lucerne Visitors’ Center. Members volunteer in the library Thursdays, Fridays, and first, second and fourth Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at other times by appointment. The collection includes materials on Lake County and many other locales.

The group welcomes everyone with an interest in family history, whether beginner or expert.
