Christopher: Thanks to Thompson for G.I. Bill support PDF Print E-mail
Written by Donna Christopher
Wednesday, 09 April 2008

I would like to publicly thank Congressman Mike Thompson for finally becoming a co-sponsor on Wednesday of the new G.I. Bill – the Webb/Hagel bill that brings this bill into this century.

A new G.I. Bill was necessary as the old one worked fine for the 1940s and 1950s, but not so good for 2008. We owe our sons and daughters no less.

I've been publicly busting your chops over it so the thanks should come in no less a form. Better late than never so THANK YOU Mikey T.

we give too many accolades to brother Mike, we should ask why he is NOT a co sponsor of HR 2514, assured funding for Veteran's health care.....
He does dish up some mean cake though.

about to many accolades from me to Mikey - they gotta be earned. Time to put his feet to the fire over health care. Just listened to a Vietnam vet on the radio talk about how the VA just attached his tax return check to pay for his PTSD treatments. I imagine they will also steal his Govt Cheese Rebate check (the economic stimulus checks we are borrowing money from China to be able to send out - thats some MBA ol' W has ain't it?). So lcsage, shall we tag team him on this? I'm willin' And Mikey is not only good dishin' up cake, he and the missus won a first in class in a little 'cook-off' Congress had last week - guess that's why it took so long for him to read the Webb-Hagel bill. Gag me with a friggin shovel.

getting an earful on the subject from a number of sources. I hope he takes it to heart and can get off that fence once in awhile.

Is the Vets health care bill, a summary is below. Chris Smith R-NJ introduced it on the below date. It has a lousy 6 co-sponsors and Democrats TAKE NOTICE, only one Dem, Delahunt has signed on. The rest, LoBiondo; McCaul; McHugh; Murphy and Saxton are Republican. And it has languished in the congressional netherlands (subcommittee on Health) since March of 07 (and it damn well better not be because of partisan issues). I hope to hear from Thompsons office as to why it is still in no-mans land. If there is a defect in this bill (perhaps it is defective because it calls for A PLAN . ) I would love to hear about it. Those interested in the new, improved GI Bill it is S.22 and companioned by H.R.2702 if you want to google the details.

2/14/2007--Introduced.
Veterans Health Care Full Funding Act - Requires: (1) that in the President's budget for each fiscal year, amounts shall be requested for veterans health care programs for each two-year period; and (2) the Veterans Health Care Funding Review Board (established in this Act) to determine the level of funding needed for each period. Outlines the health care needs required to be included under the Board's determination. Establishes the Board.
Provides standards for access to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) care for veterans seeking: (1) primary care; and: (2) specialized care.
