Schneider: Need for change in water, sewer district governance PDF Print E-mail

A recent article in the Record-Bee (3/18/08) about the rate study for water and sewer rates contains quotes by county officials that point to the need for change.

Farrington's comments about "improper management and financial irresponsibility" are hilarious. Any improper management or irresponsibility are a DIRECT reflection on him and other Board of Supervisors members. As with most things that are not hand fed to him Farrington is incapable of getting the facts straight or being able to add two and two and come up with four.

History will show that every Special Districts administrator in memory has tried to have appropriate rates and connection fees. The Board of Supervisors has been less than supportive even in the light of obvious shortfalls.

We have supervisors who think their cronies should have their fees waived. We have supervisors who refuse to consider any increase during election years. We have supervisors who do not have a clue how to run a business. We have supervisors who believe they know better than health department rules and regulations.

As long as the water and sewer districts are governed by POLITICIANS instead of being operated like nonprofit BUSINESSES there will be problems. It won't matter what this rate study says because the Board of Supervisors won't support adequate increases because it is an election year.

Farrington was quoted as wanting to consolidate districts. Of course he does because HIS constituents stand to gain the most while others will lose.

The best thing for all water and sewer districts governed by the county would be to set up a board with zero allegiance to elected officials.

America for Americans

an American?...Unless someone is an indigenous person more commonly known as Indian, an American is an immigrant, the grand-son of an immigrant, the great grand-daughter of an immigrant, and so on, unlike Europeans, who are truly indigenous to their lands. So what does America for Americans mean? Does it mean no more immigrants? Or does it mean no more immigrants of color, such as no more Mexicans, Filipinos, etc?...Would British and Germans be more acceptable?

Easter wishes to you and yours. I have got over being mad, kicked my brain in gear recalled my first sergeants voice " might as well injoy it,its not going to get better." I'm content to know their past will be in their future. Our systems tolerance for those that lie and cover up the lies is low when found out. Now it will take that authority in charge of such things to act. So I say one more time the four male supervisors are liars. Semper Fi and good life to all. Lets work to get rid of them that have us eat too much cake.

My prior comments on poor quality of status quo water management have been deemed unfit to publish in cyberspace, therefore one more time and once again, think best management practices as being preferable to the status quo.....

Water is a precious resource. User friendly policies are what we need, user friendly policies that reflect economic market conditions and ecological concerns seem to be out of reach to date; beyond common sense in Lake and neighboring counties, when California is experiencing water shortages in other parts of the state, and here in Clearlake, there is too much of it sometimes, so much so that property valuations are belittled by periodic lake waters rising and flooding prime lakeside real estate .....

If Christ and other notable prophets are able to ascend to heaven, as many believe, it is not unreasonable to hope that Lake County and California administrators should be able to harness nature's watery bounty for our advantage someday...
It would be nice to have a movement rise on the ballot, that gives
voters a say on how to proceed and which way....

Did you attempt to post a comment that didn't go up? We did have to remove comments recently when they came up under the wrong user name and the user requested they be taken down. That's the only reason they wouldn't have appeared.

Is for people that enjoy living here. Those anti establishment freaks can go live in another country more suited to their agenda. It is not for those that wish to tear it down at every turn. Our gang of four notwithstanding.
