Fowler: Those who criticize don't know the whole story PDF Print E-mail
Written by Christine Fowler
Monday, 21 January 2008

I am Christine Fowler, Charles Fowler's ex-wife Sara Fowler's stepmom.

I read some of the e-mails sent in response to your article regarding the illegal dumping on the Fowler property. I cannot let people criticize Sara for not stepping up sooner to help her father. He is and always has been a difficult man to deal with. His philosophy in life since I have known him for 17 plus years has been, "Do it my way and then ask forgiveness," especially when it comes to dealing with rules and regulations.

It is easy to criticize or be judgmental when you are only looking at the situation through the keyhole into a room and you do not see the whole room. Sara is doing the very best she can for a man who does not appreciate her efforts. She has already put a lot of her own money into trying to save the property so her father will be able to remain on the land which has been in his family for five generations.

Sara has worked very hard to make a successful life for herself and two sons as a single mother and I feel that she is putting it at risk in trying to help her father. Not all fathers deserve to be rescued by their children. To those who say she should have become involved to help sooner, her father would not admit he needed help until he had created such a mess he could no longer ignore it (i.e., foreclosures on his property).

Also, for those who are so naive to think that there is help out there, please wake up. The only help are fines and liens on the property.

Sara did not create this mess and she is doing her best to deal with it. As we all know ... it takes money ... so, for those who wish to criticize Sara, please take out your checkbook and put your money where you mouth is.

Yes, I am the ex-wife, but remember, you are only looking through the keyhole and do not see the whole picture. So, if you can 't say something nice, don't say it at all or write a check.

Thank you.

Christine Fowler lives in Lakeport.

is to be commended in her involvement with this very difficult issue and father. How did this come so far? How did it get to this magnitude? All I know is the place on Adobe Creek road has always been an intractable eyesore which approaches the road easement. The county should have stepped in long before this. Yes, this is a negative comment and I am sending no check. Maybe the county does need to foreclose and dispose.

Sara, lets give her a chance in the form of a reasonable amount of time to get a grip on the the matter at hand. No, that time frame isn't forever - if there isn't massive forward movement by this summer then it may well be that she has bitten off more than she can chew. How do you eat an elephant - one bite at a time. Your questions as to how did it happen etc tell me lscage that you have never had to deal with this type of situation. I have - its heartbreaking and hell. Good luck Sara.

From what I heard this man indeed had
plenty of help from outsiders who took advantage of his disability and collected monies? these outsiders were part of the problem and they made many of charlies bad choices, It was overlooked by many in power when it could have been stopped and investiged but it was easier to let lay until it was pushed into the forfront and then action was taken. Sara don't make the same mistake.

You are not the only one that has experience with someone that is demented or has some other sort of disability and certainly not the voice of authority on same. This situation should never have been allowed to progress to the current stage. It's the county's fault for not responding quick enough. Sara may or may not be able to help. I hope she can.

This wouldn't have occured if all concerned knew the system would be on them like piranha. Seems to me if laws have been viloted, action should be forth coming It can't be just MR.Fowler that has a cross to bear. If no laws have been violated leave the old man alone. The garbage company gets a pass?

All one has to do is drive out Adobe Creek Road and when you get to a spot that looks worse than the county landfill right next to the road, you are there. People have been complaining for years about the situation. It should not have been allowed to go on for so long.

Thanks for the info. Are you telling me that this local government has known about this problem for some time? If so I will be pleased to know the ifs ands or buts anyone? If true sounds as if charges need to be filed.

Charlie is good friends with our fav BOS member, i.e. the flushable one. This has been going on in the twenty years I have lived here. Almost 400 acres of decay. You might want to reference Eliz Larson's old articles on the subject, they pretty much say it all. Of course Chas has gotten very eccentric in the past few years, more than normal.

Is someone in this Government to be charged or they can lie and coverup the lies.
