LAKEPORT – Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting will feature several public hearings, including two proposed county land purchases along the Northshore, as well as an appeal of a disputed subdivision project. The board meets beginning at 9 a.m. in its chambers at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport. Under timed items, at 9:15 a.m. the board will hold a public hearing on a proposed property purchase at 12588 Acorn St., in Clearlake Oaks. The county wants to use the property, offered by owner Gary Nylander for $150,000, as a storage and restroom facility for the new Nylander Park next door. At 9:30 a.m., the board will hold a public hearing on second proposed land purchase, located at 6222 and 6224 E. Highway 20 in Lucerne. Seller May Noble has agreed to sell the county two lots for $300,000, which the sheriff's office hopes to use as a Lucerne substation, as Lake County News reported last month. The newly formed Lake County Winery Association will make a presentation to the board at 9:45 a.m. regarding its goals and activities in promoting the country's wine industry. Yvonne L. Metzler will appeal administrative penalties issued by Lake County Animal Care and Control during a 10:15 a.m. hearing. At 10:45 a.m. the board will consider a request from Stand Up for California to adopt a resolution opposing Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97 regarding state gaming compacts. Brad Peters, Johnnie Lee and Harry Whitlock will go before the board at 11:15 a.m. to appeal the Planning Commission's approval of a modified tentative subdivision map for Eachus View Estates. The project would subdivide a parcel totaling more than 90 acres into four residential parcels of between 2.13 acres and 3 acres – with building envelopes to minimize agricultural impacts – and one agricultural parcel of 76.15 acres. The project is located at 3454, 3565, 3585 and 3595 Hill Road, Lakeport. At 1:30 p.m. the board will hold a hearing on a nuisance abatement on Charles Fowler's property at 9250 and 9100 Adobe Creek Road in Kelseyville; and at 2:30 p.m. will consider appointments tot he Shoreline Communities Area Plan Citizens Advisory Committee. Items on the Tuesday agenda that were continued from the board's Jan. 8 meeting include an ordinance governing alcohol use in county parks, that will have its second reading by the board at 10:30 a.m.; and an untimed discussion on a proposed contract between the county and North Valley Behavioral Health for acute psychiatric services costing $650 per bed on an as-needed basis. The board also will hold a closed session for discussion with labor negotiators. The meeting will be televised on TV Channel 8. The full agenda is available at www.co.lake.ca.us. For those interested in see that this insanity stops; you may need to show the board your disapproval of this kind of mindless thought.
This only continues to allow subdividing down larger plots of land that can then be even subdivided down once more as the continued pressure grows for more residential property.
I buy a 3 acre property today; with the thought of subdividing it into two 1.5 acre plots in the future; or maybe even three 1 acre plots. This kind of subdividing is called a minor subdivision and calls for far less scrutinizing with little to no oversight; as the master plan is adjusted as we have seen our master plan here in Lake County is continually being revised to allow for even smaller plots of land in order to build homes on. Sometimes they even use the method called a lot line adjustment when subdividing down smaller plots of land and selling off an acre or two.
This kind of subdividing will only serve to perpetuation what it is that we have today; a mess of houses needing services; that the county is unable to furnish at a price that those seeking those services thinks is a fair price i.e. for free!
I can buy a 90 acre parcel of land; with the thought of buying it and selling off enough to pay for all the land and paying for the house I will reside in; on the remaining 76.15 acres. Leaving the rest of you; to pick up the tap for the cost of the expansion of the water system, sewer system, roads, schools and fire protection needed by those buying the three parcels of land I am selling off. Sound like a deal to me; how about to you?
