LAKE COUNTY – Lake County is the recipient of a Silver Award at the California State Fair again this year.

Through the efforts the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, the exhibit was designed, constructed and staffing arranged for the fair's 19-day run.

Opening on July 14, the fair closes at 10 p.m. Aug. 1.

The 2010 theme for the State Fair is “Passport to Adventure.”

The exhibit for Lake County provides insights into the various adventures which may be experienced upon visiting wine tasting, farm trails, kayaking/canoing with the new water trails brochures, fishing, water recreation galore, camping, community festivals, unique lodging experiences, adventures in historical research and just plain relaxing in the county's clear, clean air.

The title banners at the top of the exhibit replicate passport stamps which list all the communities in the county. Suspended above the exhibit are a mini-motorcycle, a bicycle and a very large kayak. The brand new kayak was donated to raffle during the fair by Holly and Chuck, so a very lucky fair visitor will receive a call in the beginning of August when their name is drawn.

Lake County residents are encouraged to make the trip to Sacramento and visit the exhibit, along with 29 other counties who have displays.

It's More Than Fair!

You can thank Melissa and John Fulton for their outstanding work on this. Together with a few volunteers, they direct and produce this booth year after year and continually win awards of this caliber. The awards come with cash prizes which help offset the construction costs of the displays, too. The time and effort they volunteer for this is pretty incredible and, once again, this booth is beautiful.
Just do not

take a wrong turn in the wrong part of the County, and got do not go a hiking now with buds near bloom. Stay in your Motel room and watch CNN and go gambling with our local Despots.

And be nice to those guys with two teeth that all look like happy chipmunks, as they might be rabid.
every town and county has bad areas where tourists shouldn't venture

just like the tourists who go to Jamaica or Mexico and never see the poverty in the shanty towns just the resorts and high living. We should try to put a positive spin on the County since tourism is important to our economy until we get some new businesses and some jobs we need the tourists and their dollars.
Disneyland
written by HeyTheresTony, July 22, 2010
CobbMt, it used to be that Disneyland was an oasis in an absolute sea of lousy motels with hookers and drug addicts and total lowlifes. The area immediately surrounding the Magic Kingdom was no place anyone wanted to be, yet just inside the walled garden was this tranquil, wonderful place. The neighbors, Disneyland and local government took action and now you can safely walk down the street, surrounded by clean sidewalks and lodging properties ranging from high-rise hotels to classic, kitschy motels from the 1950s that have been lovingly brought back to life.

The result is that Anaheim is hugely popular with visitors. Rather than people just going to Disneyland and then running for their lives, these people experience local restaurants, lodging properties and gift shops.

This is the same opportunity we have here in Lake County. Look at the life Tony & Ken have brought into Indian Beach or how positive an experience it is to go to the Edgewater thanks to Sandra and her partner.

It takes a lot of individuals to work together to create a place where you want to bring your family and friends but everyone has to participate in this, it can't just be those Same Three People (STP) who do all the work. Eventually, they just get burned out and move somewhere with a more cohesive team. But you can't spend your time looking for the problems unless you're going to be part of the solution.

So, what are you planning to do tomorrow that will make Lake County a better place to live? After all we all bring life to the room - some by arriving, others by leaving.
