Clearlake City Council to once again delay Lowe's discussion PDF Print E-mail

CLEARLAKE – A discussion about a proposed regional shopping that was planned for this week's Clearlake City Council meeting has once again been postponed.

The Pearce Field redevelopment project on Highway 53, which is proposed to include a Lowe's home improvement center as the anchor tenant, will not be discussed at the council meeting on Thursday, Feb. 11, according to City Clerk Melissa Swanson.

Swanson said city staff will ask the council to continue the agenda items, but she didn't have information on the new date.

She said City Administrator Dale Neiman will have the rescheduling information at Thursday's council meeting.

The Lowe's plan, which would be supported by more than $6 million in redevelopment funding for infrastructure improvements, was the subject of a nearly six-hour special meeting on Jan. 7, as Lake County News has reported.

KK Raphel Properties LLC of Danville is proposing the project, which has come out of more than three years of property negotiations between the company's principals and the city.

It's expected to include a Lowe's store with a total of 137,000 square feet of space – including more than 25,000 feet dedicated to an outdoor garden center – as well as four other, as-yet undetermined commercial tenants expected to be fast food or sitdown restaurants.

This is the third time the staff has asked for postponements, which Neiman said previously were needed because staff had to write responses to the voluminous public comments submitted on the proposal.

wonder what that sneaky snake Dale is up to, I just love the way this city is run, yes, we're changing the date of an important decision but no, we aren't about to tell you why or when it will be changed to! Maybe reality is slowly sinking into Dale's skull, or he just needs time to send-out a few more resumes!
a sewer connection, maybe?

No number of postponements will change the fact that they're going to have to do an EIR. And I wonder if the sewer connection moratorium on the BOS agenda tomorrow could maybe just maybe have something to do with this delay?
I apologize but...

I still don;t really understand the relevance of these numbers to thid discussion. Are you saying that all members of the Democratic or Republican partes or the Catholic Church or NRA etc. will vote uniformly on this particular issue.
I know you took some time to gather these numbers and I appreciate your efforts. I am still not clear why these numbers are a part of this discussion.
I believe for instance people on both sides of any of the wedge issues you mention (gay rights, abortion, gun rights, religion...) can still recognize the economic advantages or disadvantages of a particular local development and vote accordingly.
From a political strategy point of view, I would have no idea how Catholics for instance would vote on Cristallago or why.
I am interested and would like to have a better understanding of the point yo are trying to make. Thanks.

look at candidate councilman from Kelseyville. Now look at who backs him. He is not there because of his magnetic personality. It is special interests that vote as they hold there nose.

People blindly vote Democrat as evidenced by our Legislature and State Senate.

Lake is overwhelming Democratic. The BOS should be Democratic Moderates.

Lake is not winning where it should be. Polarizing politics takes its toll.

I just suggest there has to be a better way, how I do not know. I am sure more Alliances and education is the case.

My simple point is that folks hate overall the Peace and Freedom Party. And the list goes on from there.
I'm not sure...

and I am no political analyst but I think Kelseyville District voters support Rob because he is conservative and they tend to be as well. Not everyone of course, but I think that K'ville is one of the more conservative Lake County Districts and they like the way Rob Brown votes on most issues. Their interests are not necessarily "special" although they may have a differenct mind set than you and I.
People know where Rob Brown stands on things and he is pretty straightforward about his opinions. I think his constituents appreciate that.

NRA whatever are who they are like it or not because they do not cut any side deals. It is there way only.

The recent politics in Lake is also a take no losers prospect, then you have to go back and deal with the same people, the bureaucrats.

Everyone loves some government employees yet they are ineffective. Any names come to mind. But if you fight the SO and the DA and the BOS then get into a little scrape or need a building variance do you think politics matter.

My point only. I appreciate your views Herb and am not trying to incite, just ramble in my own way. I think Lake needs change, and you are leading a good fight, and can only get better as you deal with issues and sides that instead of causing confusion to throw you of balance give you much needed Zen mind.
Thanks Liam...

is a Reep is a District now overwhelmingly Demo.

He lost an Assembly race years ago because people were educated where he stands.

Education is the key. It takes time and commitment. The SC should have shunned his help and pointed out he has never been any help.

This is education. What will the SC get when these real estate deals get done. Nada.
Do you think Kelseyville...

is overwhwlmingly Democratic? That would suprise me. Did you actually check that out and find that to be the case?
That's a big change from demographics I remember.
But in any case, I think Rob's conservative views are pretty well known to his constituents and there have been some efforts made to unseat him over the years. Those who have run against him have been much more moderate and still lost.
From what I gather, he is not running next time and it will be interesting to see if a more progressive candidate takes his place or if the folks of Kelseyville find another Republican conservative to continue his legacy.

We have what we have locally. In Sonoma County there was a very successful group that aligned Labor, Business and Government.

There point was where can our children, or whatever live if there is no affordable housing built and new jobs created.

A group much earlier in the 70 s. In Sonoma and Marin had a vision that if you did not expand Highway 101 the growth in both would not expand.

This may be called the beginning of the Green Movement.

They failed. But at the the time the Sierra Club and many others including Jerry Brown thought this was the way to slow growth.

They were wrong. For discussion how many hours are lost when folks commute on 101 and how much extra fuel does this take. And Sonoma grew from say what 80k in 1984 to 170k today. Not including Sonoma which grew from 300k to almost 500 today.

They (Sonoma) pump there effluent to the Geyser's at I am not sure, but guess 2204622.621 lb pounds per day. What does Lake get for this, about 1k jobs at the Geysers. What does Calpine, Et al give back other than 1 out of every 50 jobs in Lake. Nobody talks about what they believe as a Corporation and what they can do to help.

Oh, and the average home in Santa Rosa is 440k. In Lake 282k. I am talking average 3 br 2 bath about 1500 square feet in recent energy efficient construction. A nice home not trash.

So what to do in Lake. Stop retired bedroom communities, stop large retail. And what do we get.

Out children leave for greener places, and Lake is and will continue to be a Retirement Mecca. And Geyser Mecca - who keep a real low profile.

Harbin hires about 150 people, and I believe is the Church of Heart Conciseness. I here a thousand folks show up on the weekends in the Spring Summer. What do they do to make Lake a better place.

Addi Da who is not among us in body claims a membership of 5k. And again a Church.

Are they tax free - do we subsidize them as Lake residents.

What do these large - Calpine - Harbin - Adi Da Samra do for Lake.

The BLM owns thousands of acres and again what do they do for Lake.

But when a project comes along like Konocti Harbor that proposes gambling, it gets the No from the BOS.

Yet we have gambling in Lake that ruins our qualilty of life. Now the Plumbers Union is closed. 800 jobs lost. Unemployment with those who gave up looking for jobs is about 30 percent.

So where is Lake going.

Would not it be better to cut a deal and get something going - Konocti, Large home developments, big box retail. We know where the contractors go, to Lowes The Internet and Home Depot.

What is the vision for Lake. I see nothing sustainable. Pot gardens, retired folks.

What am I missing. I only want a place where my children and all can get a job and be close.

There must be something other than local bickering.

Lake has no mold because it has nothing other than retirees and recreation.

LAKEPORT Cristallago took another step toward building north of Lakeport as the Lake County Board of Supervisors denied an appeal Tuesday by the Sierra Club Lake Group and certified the final environmental impact report for the project.

Board members voted 4-1 to deny the appeal, with Supervisor Denise Rushing dissenting.

As reported in the San Jose Mercury News on 11/9/07 there are 32 million registered cars in California.

So at $18.00 per car that would raise $256000000.

256,000,000 Million.

Who loses, mental health, schools, or if you have 4 cars the norm in 72 bucks.

They need to tax elctric cars to make them pay there road fees, and encourage mass transit. Not charge this. The SC has again proven they are elitist and out of touch. Why not just charge to use the park...

...so what do you mean by :"Victoria Brandon of the Sierra Club Lake Group encouraged the board and public to sign petitions to put an initiative on the ballot..." That is not the way ballot initiatives are born. If they had wanted to do that they would have circulated a petition themselves. So there is something not quite right with your story and your accusations.
Can you document these allegations?

Quote is from EL in above article. My point no cohesion no sense to arguments. Let us loose one now lets pick another loser.

People look for therapy to avoid this behavior.

Again in quotes from the Record Bee, http://www.record-bee.com/ci_14370474

I did not write this only quoted it, again proof that things are not always what they appear.
