Watkins: The real inconvenient truth PDF Print E-mail
Written by Darrell Watkins

Did you see Al Gore’s frightening new eco-film, “An Inconvenient Truth”? He said he “invented” the Internet, not long ago. Now, he’s passionately ringing a global-warming alarm bell. Greenhouse gases are increasing, he warns. Polar caps are melting. Rising oceans will flood coastal cities. Millions will suffer and die. The film is so popular among liberal Democrats Gore is thinking about running for president, again. Many Democrats will vote for him because neither he nor they recognize real dangers to the planet.

Gore is not wrong to want to be a watchman for the world and see danger ahead. He looks, however, in all the wrong places. The globe is spinning towards disaster and the sky really is falling in but not because of global warming. The real danger to nations and planets is, and always has been, human character that turns sour. One witty comic said not long ago, “We have seen the enemy and he is us.“ Most people laughed. A few sighed and cried. Those who lamented know human charity and kindness are melting away like snow on the sunny side of a mountain. Hearts are hardening like brass and turning cold like ice. Faith in the world is waning like the moon in its fourth quarter. More and more, world leaders are behaving like beasts in the jungle. They hope to kill before they’re killed. Gore would do better if he aimed his distress signals at mushrooming moral blindness.

People with eyes to see hope Gore will make a film about the real dangers to planet earth. Unfortunately, he walks in darkness. It was Gore who personally led the assault on family values when he was vice president and later a candidate for president. He permitted an out-of-the-closet lesbian to give a keynote speech at his Democratic convention. Militant homosexual activists played a big role in trying to get him elected. He recruited “save the abortion clinic feminists” to help him campaign. The destruction of the family is a real threat to the planet but Gore doesn't get it. Children who don’t have mothers and fathers are a worldwide catastrophe.

Readers remember it was Vice President Gore who supported President Clinton when he introduced the world to oral sex and semen-stained dresses. Adultery is a worldwide plague but Gore kept his mouth shut when Clinton had affair on top of affair.

Secular history has proved many times over good character builds strong nations. Gibbons’ “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” shows how moral decay brings them down. Biblical history tells the same story with a divine variation. Genesis reports a violent world brought to a watery grave by an angry Spirit who looked for justice and found none. Revelation reveals another corrupt world will be destroyed by the same August Spirit in an unquenchable fire. This is the global warming that should alarm Gore and his aficionados.

Raphael Author | 06-25-2007 07:56:05
It is rather regretable that some conservative individuals feel the need to quote the Bible endlessly to legitimize their ideology...So called "liberals" could do likewise, as there is apparently plenty of Biblical material to condemn the greed and corruption, the lies, the war making, the exploitation of the poor and oppression of the weak by the profit oriented corporate and banking elites that controls this and other nations...But then "liberals" do not feel the need to quote scriptures to validate what rightly appears to them to be self evident truths.
The reality of global warming is invisible only to the blind: any trip to Alaska or Northern Canada would chock and awaken the sceptics, but global warming is not the only threat to our survival...global pollution, particularly of our water supplies, will soon cause humanity to question the course undertaken by this wasteful and unbalanced technological civilization, at which point it will be too late to return to a state of health and harmony with the natural world.
It is however neither homosexuals, nor lesbians, nor feminists or abortion clinics that threaten our world: our world has always been threatened by those who assume to become its moral leaders and to impose their dogmas or ideologies on others by force, be they communists or capitalists, Christian or Muslims, atheists or believers...today our world and its nations are dominated by a cabal of globalists who dream of doing away with democracy once and for all and of finally implementing the total supremacy of an international military-industrial (corporate and international banking) complex controlled by a small elite bent on dictating the destiny of the world and owning all of its resources. This is a real threat to humanity, in the form of global tyrany. The other threat is not new: our complete disconnection from nature, which we view as a mere "environment" separate from us, and that we arrogantly believe we can dominate and master, and use and abuse according to our selfish desires, without any love or respect for the earth.
If only some Christians could stop searching for Biblical quotes to validate their irrelevant ideologies and understand the most fundamental and universal truth that to disrespect the creation is to disrespect the Creator, they could become a major force, regardless of political affiliation, in the healing of our world...Instead, many who choose to espouse a Rush LImbaugh-type hatred for "liberals" (was not Joshua-Jesus in Latin-a "bleeding heart", a "do-gooder" according to conservative, reactionary standards?...after all he bled for the entire world, and had a particular sympathy for the meek, for the poor, for those who suffer at the hands of oppressors and victimizers, according to Christian doctrine...) are mislead to support the truly destructive elements of our world, the ruthless elite whose only allegiance is to itself and whose only religion is the pursuit of wealth and power at any cost, even at the cost of global and endless war and of the eventual ruin and destruction of our world.

Rafael says "pollution" and "disconnection from" nature are the real world problems, not abortion clcinics and homosexual sin. Watkins wants to know what's natural about abortion clinics and homosexual sins? What does Rafael find "natural" about adultery? And, aren't all these problems also pollution? Rafael doesn't think so but he does think Bible readers pollute the world when they quote scripture. That's a major sin.
patsy - let's have some facts Registered | 06-25-2007 12:18:40
Gore never said he invented the Internet. He did, quite properly, take credit for helping its development while he was in Congress. The full story is at
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
a great site for the truth about urban legends.
The quote "We have met the enemy... and he is us" is from Pogo cartoonist Walt Kelly's poster for Earth Day in 1970.
Mr. Watkins would benefit from expanding his reference sources.

Patsy said Gore didn't say he invented the internet. Unfortunately, the reporters present heard Gore "take credit" with so much enthusiasm they left under the impression he invented the internet. Patsy should be a little more careful with her facts. Also, what does Patsy say about Gore's problem with adultery, abortion clinics, and homosexual sins?

Red Herring anyone?

Darryl is simpling sharing the administration's increasingly unsupportable view of Global Warming. It isn't about Gore and it never was.

Earlier this year, the world's top climate scientists released a definitive report on global warming. It is now "unequivocal," they concluded, that the planet is heating up. Humans are directly responsible for the planetary heat wave, and only by taking immediate action can the world avert a climate catastrophe. Megadroughts, raging wildfires, decimated forests, dengue fever, legions of Katrinas - unless humans act now to curb our climate-warming pollution, warned the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, "we are in deep trouble."http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/15148655/ the_secret_campaign_of_president_george_bushs_admi nistration_to_deny_global

Raphael - Interesting... Author | 06-25-2007 20:29:57
"Kud Ed Strait" is either a real fan and staunch supporter and champion of Darrell Watkins, or is Darrell himself...In which case, it must be pointed out that talking about oneself in the third person should be viewed as slightly suspicious, psychologically speaking...
Anyway, to answer this comment to my comment, I am simply not obsessed with the sexual habits of public figures, with lesbians, with feminists (whom I support completely), with homosexuals, with spanking, with adulterers, or with abortion clinics...How about war, torture, lies, greed, the rape and abuse of women, the sexual abuse and exploitation of children (Kelseyville itself is named after a 19th century murderer and pedophile...isn't this troubling?), and the degrading spread of pornography (degrading to women and men), are these things okay with conservative Christians?
Furthermore, when the most basic life support systems (clean air, clean water, clean land) fail because we have trashed and raped our natural environment out of greed and willful ignorance, the question might be asked as to what we will have left to eat, to breathe and to drink...Will the good people of America eat their Bibles, their dollars and their flags? Certainly, millions of people will die, and it will not be a divine punishment for having abortion clinics or for Clinton having oral sex, but the direct and logical result of messing up and soiling our earth. It will be the consequence of this arrogant western (and now global) civilization attempting to take the position of a god on earth, of disrupting the natural balance and order and replacing them with its own chaos in a pathological thirst for dominant power, control and mastery over the natural creation. There is no mystery here, nature itself "punishes" us when we disregard its laws, because whatever we do to nature we do to ourselves...Is this too simple to understand?...The natural earth has a divine origine, and should have been respected, loved and honored as such...If fundamentalist Christians stood for the divine creation, rather than being obsessed with gay marriages (aren't gays only a small percentage of the population according to conservatives themselves?...by comparaison, 1 out of 4 women is said to be abused or to have been raped in this country, and more in the third world...isn't this a more important issue?), spanking, "semen stained dresses" or other irrelevant topic, perhaps we would still have a chance as a species, a chance to undo the damage we have already done to our world, and to change course...but it would require honesty and a major awakening of intellectual faculties...It would also require a true love for the creation, which some of these people are apparently completely lacking, as they seem to relish the idea of the complete destruction of this world, going as far as stating that environmentalists are doing "the work of the devil" because, in their distorted view, they are postponing the final destruction of the earth and therefore the "second coming" for the chosen few!...How much sicker and utterly unfriendly to the interests of humanity could anyone be?...
Kruk Ed Strait - those evil Christians.. Author | 06-26-2007 00:42:31
Rafael hates evil Christian fundamentalists, he says. He's comfortable, however, with, "...lesbians, with feminists..., with homosexuals..., with adulterers, or with abortion cllinicss." At least we know where Rafael stands. It's too bad he's chosen his own ideas instead of the teachings of his Creator.
Raphael - Va con Dios... Author | 06-26-2007 02:34:35
I want to reassure Darrell that I do not "hate" Christians, nor do I think Christians are "evil"...(So that he does not feel victimized and unloved...)
There are countless great Christians, who are completely sincere and honest in their beliefs, and honor their religion and their God. Christianity as a religion has at times been extremely misguided at certain periods in history, as have other religions (even Buddhists killed people at some point to impose their religion), particularly when they were highjacked by extremists, and these extremists attempted to force their views violently on the world. But then the same can be said of political ideologies and anything else that becomes a tool a separation to divide the world between "us" and "them", and make it a battlefield.
All the religions of the world have more in common than they have to separate them, and even though they might not admit it, they all look to the same Creator (albeit under different names and languages), as there is only one divine source of life, not 2 or 3 or a dozen...But some, who want to cling to judgemental, narrow, intolerant, fearful and rather mistaken outlooks use religion, or anything else for that matter, to separate and divide people, and place themseves in a self-righteous position of quasi omnipotence assuming to know and speak for the Creator...This seems to me to be a little arrogant, and a heavy responsibility...The dialogue ends right there however, for all who disagree with their views are said to be in the hands of a "devil" and headed for hell.
So why do they keep on talking? Do they think they could be getting brownie points by attempting to "save souls"? Do they need to keep on expressing their profound disdain of "heathens" for apparently no reason, since they are, they believe with certainty, on their way to Heaven and to love and bliss and a reunion with their God? Why be so miserable if your future is guaranteed to be one of eternal happiness? Why not be jumping with joy, and spreading joy around? Or are they not sure, and do they ultimately seek to be proven wrong for some strange reason, such as a vague feeling than something in their beliefs does not add up?
I never thought I would do this, but I am including a quote from the Dead Sea Scrolls:
They sat around Jesus and asked him: "Master, which are these laws of life? Rest with us a while longer and teach us. We would listen to your teaching that we may be healed and become righteous."
And Jesus himself sat down in their midst and said: "I tell you truly, none can be happy, except he do the Law."
And the others answered: "We all do the laws of Moses, our lawgiver, even as they are written in the holy scriptures."
And Jesus answered: "Seek not the law in your scriptures, for the law is life, whereas THE SCRIPTURE IS DEAD. I tell you truly, Moses received not his laws from God in writing, but through the living word...In everything that is life is the law written. You find it in the grass, in the tree, in the river, in the mountain, in the birds of heaven, in the fishes of the sea; but seek it chiefly in yourselves. For I tell you truly, all living things are nearer to God than the scriptures which is without life...GOD WROTE NOT THE LAWS IN PAGES OF BOOKS, BUT IN YOUR HEART AND IN YOUR SPIRIT. They are in your breath, your blood, your bones; in your flesh, your bowels, your eyes, your ears, and in every little part of your body. They are present in the air, in the water, in the earth, in the plants, in the sunbeams, in the depths and in the heights. They all speak to you that you may understand the tongue and the will of the living God. But you shut your eyes that you might not see, and you shut your ears that you might not hear. I TELL YOU TRULY, THAT THE SCRIPTURE IS THE WORK OF MAN, BUT LIFE AND ALL ITS HOSTS ARE THE WORK OF OUR GOD. Wherefore do you not listen to the words of God which are written in his works? And wherefore do you study the dead scriptures which are the work of the hands of men?"

Oh dear! Rafael has gone off the deep end. Now, everyone knows where he gets his goofy ideas. He follows the Dead Sea Scrolls and doesn't like the living Bible. Perhaps, he doesn't know some people think this is a backwards and upside down way to go about philosophy. At least he's out of the closet. Unfortunately, he doesn't even follow the Dead Scrolls. They don't condone Rafael's acceptance of abortion clinics, homosexual sins, and adultery. Rafael just wants to do what's right in his own eyes.
Raphael - Poor Darrell Watkins... Author | 06-26-2007 17:35:51
I can see that your reputation is unfortunately justified...and attempting to be civilized and to have a somewhat intelligent and open conversation with you is like attempting to reason with a Muslim jihadist or a brain-washed Maoist...your mind is unfortunately as closed as Fort Knox, and that's putting it nicely, by assuming that you do have a mind.
To clarify: I do not follow anything, I am not a sheep. I am not a Christian either.
And I find your type particularly distasful, the Bible thumper who gives Christianity a bad name by wrapping his rampant prejudices, hatred of women,
and grotesque self-righteousness in Bible verses to serve nothing more than a ridiculous Rush Limbaugh-type backward and reactionary right wing ideology as well as some apparent psychological pathology, such as this weird and unhealthy obsession with spanking (there is professional help for this kind of thing...)
By the way, I do not just accept abortion clinics, I SUPPORT women's right to choose, I SUPPORT feminists, I SUPPORT contraception and sex education, and I do think lesbians and homosexuals have every right to be who they are, like every other human being who is not hurting another, and that what they do in their private life is no one else's business, no yours, not mine. As far as adulterers, get your mind off the gutter Darrell, and get a life!
End of conversation, if it can be called a conversation!
Kruk Ed Strait - Clearly a sheep or not a sheep Author | 06-26-2007 23:37:24
Everyone thanks Rafael for coming out of the closet and clarification. He is, indeed, very clear. Readers hear two sides of a story and can make up their own mlinds. Rafael is very clelarly not a sheep. Watkins clearly is a sheep. Rafael clearly doesn't follow Christ. Watkins clearly does, like a sheep. Rafael does what is right in his own eyes, clearly, not like a sheep. Watkins is only a sheep and clearly follows the Sheperd. Unfortunately for Rafael, the Sheperd clearly likes sheep. He clearly doesn't like goats. One day he will seperate the sheep from the goats. Unfortunately, the Sheperd will say Rafael clearly is a goat.

Okay I know I said "end of conversation", but this is too funny, I have to reply for the last time...
Sheep or no sheep, is that really the question? I fell asleep counting them by the way, they were just too many, don't know where they all came from, good thing I did not say "I am not a cockroach", I would've had to reach for the pesticide.
And here you go again, speaking about yourself in the third person...is it mental stress?...Is there more than one Darrell Watkins in your mental world?...Has human cloning already reached Lake County?...I just hope you do not argue with your other self in public!...
About closets, I have never been in one except to get clothes or shoes, I have always made my so called liberal opinions very public through letters to the paper, too public perhaps, but not too liberal!...But this does not make me a public figure or important in any way whatsoever, so to assume that readers would even be interested to read this pitiful exchange is really far fetched...
I am really happy to hear that the "Shepherd" will like you...as long as you do not stone anyone to death or strike a child, don't worry you will be fine.
Now although I have found this to be amusing towards the end, this time I really have to go, so long Darrell!
Kruk Ed Strait - Sheep to goat Author | 06-27-2007 18:45:07
Sheep don't need no condescending approval from goats. They just like to be herded by a good Sheperd and they're happy. Besides, what do goats know about spanking kids or executing murderers, anyway?
