KELSEYVILLE – A symposium to help Lake County residents respond to global issues such as climate change, poverty and economic crisis will take place at the Kelseyville Senior Center on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County, the symposium is an opportunity for people to understand how everyone can play a part in addressing these global issues and create a world that is sustainable for this and future generations.

Participants will explore topics of importance, using video, up-to-the-minute facts and figures, and dynamic group interaction. Some of the world’s leading experts on topics as diverse as the current state of the Earth’s biodiversity and the reality of the socio-economic disparity throughout the world will be heard.

In this symposium, each individual will discover the unique stand they wish to take for a more just, sustainable and fulfilling world. After the symposium, the facilitators expect that participants will leave empowered to take clear steps to embody their vision for a better world, having established new connections to work with others on common issues.

The Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium is an initiative of The Pachamama Alliance, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization. The alliance’s mission is to preserve the Earth’s tropical rainforests by empowering the indigenous peoples who are its natural custodians, and to contribute to the creation of a new global vision of equity and sustainability for all.

The vision of the initiative is to generate widespread awakening at the grassroots level that leads to a transformation of peoples’ worldview, such that humanity becomes committed to restoring and protecting the environment and moves towards social justice and spiritual fulfillment.

Mousetrap Mania: Event for youth planned for Sept. 8 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Editor
Friday, 04 September 2009
LAKEPORT – All Lake County youth are invited to United Christian Parish in Lakeport on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to take part in “Mousetrap Mania.”

The fun starts at 7 p.m. at the church, located at 745 N. Brush St.

“Mousetrap Mania” is more than just another youth event – it is a real life look at the traps we experience in life and hard core lessons in how to avoid them.

For those who think they know how to avoid the pitfalls of common traps in life consider potential attitude traps as well. How can selfishness, greed, pride, jealousy or even being unforgiving become a trap that can hurt you?

School is about to start and every party and sporting event seems to offer the potential traps of drugs and alcohol.

Many youth are poised to start dating – what traps may be there?

Perhaps you really have figured out how to avoid these many traps in life, but what about your friends? What can you say to a friend who you can see is blindly walking into a trap?

Start the school year right: Learn how to avoid the traps – and have fun doing it!

Warning: They will be walking through an obstacle course with real traps – just like life.
