Carlé Chronicle: High praise for Barbara, tough grading period ahead PDF Print E-mail
Written by Atlee Erickson
Friday, 30 November 2007
Thanksgiving has come and gone, and everyone enjoyed their break. Even though having a break from school was great, we are all glad to be back here at Carlé again!

Some new students have joined Carlé since the beginning of October. We would like to welcome Sam Ayala, Peter Bennett, Justin Duncan, Michelle Hayes, Mary Snyder and Kayla Ward.

A few of our current students are now nearing graduation, and all will be presenting their portfolios on Nov. 29. They are Crystal Engelking, Wes Besgrove and Amy Jones. They each have been great students, and will be missed when they leave.

The staff members at Carlé always do their best so that the students here can get the most out of their school. Everyone here would like to thank one of our most valued staff members: Barbara Dye. We want our appreciation of her to be known. She worked on her own time in order to get all the student's report cards out for the second grading period. She is loved by all of the students and the staff.

Our principle, Bill MacDougall says, “She is one of the most intelligent, efficient and pleasant people I have ever met.”

Our student body president Lavonne Pattee also said, “Barbara is what keeps Carlé High running; she is what keeps everything running smoothly, and she also happens to one of the kindest people that has ever walked the face of the Earth.”

Our teacher, Alan Siegel, had this to say: “Barbara is probably the most competent person I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She is our secretary, counselor, advisor, troubleshooter, English corrector and so much more. She is the single most important person to the success of this school.”

The third grading period is under way and it is going to be a strange one. This is because of the winter vacation taking away most of our school days, making it harder to get a good amount of credits. It will be impossible for students to achieve gold level unless they do a good amount of extra credit. We are confident, though, that everyone here will do just fine.

Congratulations to this week's student of the week, Courtney Montiel. She was chosen as student of the week for helping other students, doing a lot of community service, and always being a very pleasant person.

Thank you for reading! Have a great week!

Carlé Chronicle: A new collaboration with miZone PDF Print E-mail
Written by Atlee Erickson
Sunday, 11 November 2007
It is a new month, and we are approaching the end of our second grading period. The holidays are coming up.

On Nov. 11 for Veterans Day there was a function at Lower Lake Cemetery for all of our soldiers. This is an annual event, being organized by Joel and Flora Moore, in which a flag is raised for every soldier. People come and pay respect to the fallen soldiers on Veterans Day. Carlé is heavily involved in the Avenue of the Flags. We joined the Boy Scouts and others in paying our respects.

Carlé began working on Veterans Day and Memorial Day as a way to thank the people who run the graveyard for always being so accommodating to our students. After we did the flags one time we were so impressed with the day that we have been involved ever since.

Thanksgiving break, first break of the school year, is going to be Nov. 18-25. After working hard for a while, the students and the teachers are very happy for a break.

In other news, Carlé is now in cooperation with miZone, a program that helps people of all ages organize their lives and their careers. Carlé students now get one credit for every 12 hours they spend participating in the miZone program. The entire program lasts 10 weeks and is completely free.

Their facility is well equipped with eight computers that can be used to learn windows off voice programs and have a program called iJobs, which helps people find jobs they would like to have. They also have food and entertainment for people working so they can refresh themselves.

Businesses can call miZone for workers, and miZone will provide them with participants in the program that are willing to do these jobs. Carlé Principal Bill MacDougal is very excited about this program, and feels it is very important for helping people make their lives better.

On Nov. 8 Anthony Hill gave his portfolio, in order to show his work for all his years in school until now.

We would like to congratulate our student of the week Sarah Roath. She was chosen for student of the week for her hard work and being an excellent student. Angie Siegel said, “She is one of the top students in the school, and she has worked incredibly hard from the second she stepped foot on campus.”

Also, everyone in student government received chili for doing such a great job organizing Harvest Fest.

That is all for the Chronicle! Thanks for reading!

Carlé Chronicle: Lots of Halloween happenings PDF Print E-mail
Written by Atlee Erickson
Saturday, 03 November 2007
Harvest Fest was great fun at Carlé this year! On Halloween we spent the entire day playing games and doing fun activities for our Harvest Fest celebration. Our student government worked hard to organize creative activities for everyone to do, and all of their hard work paid off!

For Harvest Fest we had a massive competition between all of the advisory classes of our school. The teachers that led their advisory classes were Dan Maes, Angie Siegel, Alan Siegel, Verna Rogers and Steve Hammond.

Students from each advisory competed to get more points for their class by making masks for their teachers, decorating their classroom doors and competing in group games such as our Clue game.

The overall winner of the Harvest Fest competition was Angie’s class! The winning students of Angie’s class were Sam Ayala, Jaime Banducci, Wesley Besgrove, Kelly Campo, Daniel Davey, Tailore Delange, Justin Duncan, Mia Dupard, Kimberly Fuller, Michelle Hayes, Eric Hernandez, Janiel Huber-Benefiel, Mike Jefferson, Amy Jones, Bryan Lane, Steven Negrete and Jah-Brela Parker.

There were other smaller competitions, as well, that students competed in. The winner of the pumpkin carving contest was Steven Negrete, and the winner of the face-painting contest was Jason Andrews. The winner of our game of musical chairs was Kevin Almond.

The winner of the best costume of Carlé was Atlee Erickson, who came as a coin-operated boy. The second- and third-best costumes were worn by Yvette Kinyon, and Sina Radley as a fairy.

Also, We now have the winners of our Ping Pong tournament and they are Lavonne Pattee and Bill MacDougal of the women’s and men’s divisions, respectively.

Hope you had a happy Halloween everyone, and thanks for reading!

Lower Lake High PTSA promoting eScrip PDF Print E-mail
Written by Roberta Lyons
Sunday, 28 October 2007

LOWER LAKE – The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at Lower Lake High School, formed last year, is busy recruiting new members, sponsoring the “Reflections” art contest at the high school, and promoting the eScrip program to raise valuable funding for schools in the Konocti Unified School District.

The PTSA meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Lower Lake High School teacher’s room. Parents, teachers, and students involved with LLHS are urged to become members and to become active in the PTSA.

The PTSA plans to fund scholarships to PTSA student members, help fund sober grad night, help fund field trips and other programs, contribute to site improvements, and contribute to honor roll incentives.

Right now, the group is promoting the eScrip program to raise money for Lower Lake High School, as well as other schools that are registered with the program in the Konocti District.

eScrip is a hassle free way to raise funds through everyday purchases made at eScrip merchants. You don’t have to save receipts, or anything, just register your Safeway card, credit cards, (including Macy’s and Eddie Bauer) or debit cards on line with the eScrip program and a percentage of each purchase you make will be deposited directly into the account of the school you choose.

It is simple to register, simply go to www.eScrip.com, go to “sign-up” and designate our group (LLHS PTSA) to receive contributions. The LLHS PTSA group number is 6530904. Schools all over the country are raising thousands of dollars through eScrip.

If you would like more information about the program, contact Roberta Lyons at (707) 994-2024 – she can help you register, or register for you.

The PTSA is also promoting the 2007/2008 “Reflections” art contest at Lower Lake High School. The theme for this year is “I Can Make A Difference by ...” Categories for participation include: Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, Film/Video Production, Literature, Visual Arts, and Photography. Students at LLHS are being asked to participate.

Winners will be forwarded to the State PTA and may even move on to the National Award category. Participates are asked to create an original piece of artwork in one of the six categories they chose.

If you would like to get involved with the PTSA at Lower Lake High School, contact Roberta Lyons at 707-994-2024.
